valdez is the place to be right now (H2O and Valdez heli camps both have cats if I rmemeber right)

I'm not sure how much snow ONS's operation needs but the girdwood valley is looking thin. If the snow's the CPG is pretty cheap on weekdays with the stipulations (I think) that you are on standby as in if the heli doesn't fly you give your seat up to heli clients but on days the heli doesn't fly alyeska probably has a crapton of snow anyway

Edit: Also look into hainse its a shitty town but the mountains look cool, also juneau offers fairly cheap unguided heli drop offs if you have a group

If you are going to be in Valdez, check out www.valdezhelicamps.com
They have good cat skiing, and you can always upgrade to a heli if it goes code blue and your budget can take it.

What about Hatcher Pass in the Talkeetnas. When I was last there they had an operation up their but I am not sure if they are still around. If memory serves me, it was like $150 a day and about 2 hours from Anchorage. I never skied with them so I can't speak to the quality.

    AkPM,

Good suggestion, although the cat doesn`t go where the sleds do. My BC comrades and I tend to track those lines out a lot more before the cat-skiers get to it, like last season for example when there was snow. Man, this year is just pitiful for the Hatch. Btw, I think Haines is one of the coolest Ak towns in existence, although you gotta drive into British Columbia for the real goods. The townies definitely have a handle on how much cruise ship and heli activity is allowed.

    toddc,

Get in touch w/ Scott Raynor @valdezheliguides and see if he can hook you up with a standby day if you`re on a budget. Tell him RP sent you.
