To the Friggin Fraud that emptied my checking and savings account on Christmas Eve ..

... you best just hope I don't find ya; that's all I got to say.

Short version. Go to Dan's today to buy some chow with my debit card. They say the account no longer exists. What?? Come home and check my account on the net and see that some friggin thief has somehow gotten my account number, printed checks (with wrong address, phone number, etc.) and has been writing them for the last week. My checking and savings account have been more than emptied. Bank is closed since I didn't figure it out until late this afternoon.

So pissed!!! Thank God pow, pow is coming soon to cleanse my soul. Sounds like Friday morn is gonna be the sickest, deepest morn in awhile and I'll prolly miss most of cause some schmuck dicked me and now I gotta go deal with it.

Anything like this ever happen to anybody here before??

    Wow, happy holidays.

You haven't given your account info to anyone in Nigeria recently, have you?

Only kidding. Seriously, that is terrible and hopefully they find whoever did this and let you kick the crap out of him!

I do know someone who had a check stolen from their mailbox, but never something as drastic as this.

That bloes big time. RIGHT FUCKING NOW...get on the web to Experian or TRW or one of the other credit rating agencies and notify them. Pretty sure you can do that by web.

Got a credit card? Call and immediately notify them of the ID theft.

And when you deal with your bank, don't let them weasel. They are responsible.

It's easy to boost an account number. Most banks are Federally insured so your money may be temporarily gone but not lost. Still bites though.

X- Damn sorry to hear that man...something I fear myself, but don't think too much about it till it hits someone you know or are associated with. Keep us in the loop on how you take care of this cretin and crappy situation.

Ifn youz want me 'n Woodsy will go break the mooks kneecaps when you find em. Or my cousin from Newark, Vinnie, aka Vinnie the Fish, can drag out the pipes and vice grips.

Seriously, hope you get it worked out fast with no further harm done.

    Unhappy

Unreal. I've never heard of that one. And on Christmas eve. Just after you got over an ACL issue. As LCC was dumping for several days. After the best start in a decade.
Things have gotta start lookin up from here.

..if i may add my 2 cents- it may not be someone close to you...it could be someone- anyone who had seen your cc or imprint (like waiters at a resturant...no offense to waiter maggs/minions)...or maybe some fuckhead rummaging thru your trash. bottom line- shred all those credit card applications/ statements / etc....

fuck man this really fucking sucks. enjoy the pow in the meantime, call up the credit agencies and let karma sort out those fucking fuckheads

Sorry to hear this man. Same thing happened to an old girlfreind of mine a few years back. The banl will definetly cover you on this as they are totally responsible.

Also, this isnt necessarily someone you know. When I was in college I worked a mini mart for awhile and saw people I worked with scam peoples CC's all the time, gotta be careful.

That is a serious grinch story. Holy shit that sucks. All will feel better, if only temporary, while your shredding this whopper storm that is headed our way.

I got my check book and wallet stolen from the employee locker room at Cottonwood Hospital ER on Christmas Eve about five years ago. Withing half a day the bastards wrote the last twelve checks. I cancelled all of them, but some still went through. Then I had to go to the bank and sign affadavit of forgery on all of them. When I bought my house, some still showed up on my credit as money due to dickhead creditors. So once again I had to sign affadavits of forgery and send them to the credit agencies. What a hassle.

Copy everything, save multiple copies, and get on it right away (after you ski some much earned pow of course). And down the road, get a copy of your credit report to make sure nothing is hanging around that shouldn't be. Last, but not least, lynch the fuckers if you get a chance.

    Good luck.

I know you may not even want to deal with this on Christmas, but there's someone in your corporate office working right now. Credit card/bank fraud doesn't take a holiday (I just made that up), so there's got to be some 800# or something you can call.

Or you can just enjoy today with your fam and wait unitl tomorrow.

    Good luck, d00d.

    Bloody 'ell.

Hope they catch the bastard. More importantly, I hope the bank reimburses everything. Fingers crossed for you.

Someone spent $2,000 on my credit card two weeks ago. Internet (or phone) transaction, apparently. Two transactions in NY, while I was in the UK and about to ski in Italy. Card co. says they won't make me pay. Big sigh of relief.

Wow X, that sucks, big time. What kind of lowlife does this shit on Christmas Eve???

If you find this person, kick some serious ass. I think there was a real good thread on "Payback" over on powder. Remember, you want to make his life a living hell, without ending up arrested. I'm sure you'd have a lot of maggot/minion support...

NEVER EVER HAVE OR USE A DEBIT CARD!!!
    DEBIT cards are EVIL.
    This is why.
They have drained your bank account, and you will eventually get your money back, but you the big pain is all your outstanding checks will now bounce. Cable, phone, etc. will all hit you with NSF check return fees of at least $25. You will probably not get these charges returned. You will spend lots of time on the phone with all these vendors and your bank.

With a CREDIT card, when someone racks up phony charges, you dispute them, and do not pay them. End of story and end of hassle.

Moral of the story - only use CREDIT cards, and then pay them off in full.
Either that, or create a separate bank account just for your debit card, and transfer money into it only as required.

Sorry for you, but hopeflly others can learn from your pain.

Holy shit I just typed up the longest response I could muster and the fucking thing kicked me out when I tried to submit it. Ill go with the sort version this time.
I have some experience with this since last march we had a vehicle stolen out of the garage along with my wifes purse and all credit cards, debit card and checkbook. Oh yeah her drivers license too ( nothing like making it easy for the bastards) tomm. at nine am when you are standng in line at wildcat you will call your bank and withing 15 minutes you will be rolling They will "flag" your old account and open a new one. Get a file folder titled "fraud" ready to go beacuse you are about ready to experience a great deal of collection agency phone calls wondering why all these checks are bouncing. When you are done taking out your frustration at Alta you will go to your bank and sign an affidavit stating you were the victim of fraud. This is what the collection dicks will be looking for to take you off the hook. Make sure you keep good records of all correspondence with these people including fax receipts stating that you have sent and they have received your affidavit 3 or 4 times beacuse these people are not the brightest star in the sky sometimes. This is criminal so call the police and see about a police report. Mine was a little different beacuse along with the purse they took my car so a police report was a no brainer. your bank will give you the number to call trw and equifax and they will flag your account and they will call YOU anytime somebody is trying to get credit in your name. in 6 months or so don't forget to order your credit reports to make sure they are not dicked up. The girl that was using my wifes identity was finally caught at a kinkos making more bad checks. She had some serious issues besides being a crack whore and I just got news from the detective she is in prison for 2 years for a pelethra of shit. The good news is beacuse she was caught I now have her address and name. I am trying to think of a nice way of approaching her when she gets out. I figure a shot to the back of the head with a baseball bat is a little harsh but none the less I will have something for her. Keep smiling

I had my identity stolen about 12 months ago. There are some things you can do, although it's not exactly a party in meathelmets.

Call all 3 credit bureaus (experian, trans something, and something else). You need to inform them of the situation, they will put a stop to pre-approved credit. For me it stopped someone from buying a dell computer, and then it stopped someone else from buying a HOUSE.

Then call the FTC's fraud prevention line - your credit card company has this #. They won't actually do anything b/c this is so common, but it helps them with the big rings. It also creates a paper trail, which you will need.

Then call the local police and fill out a report, which you will need as a record. When the theives strike next, it will be YOUR burden to prove it is not you.

Then just wait and see. I don't know if your bank accounts are insured. You may already know this, but your checks contain all the information needed to wipe you out. Give the theives the year of your birth and then they can lever you up too. I don't like checks - too much information on the bottom with those numbers.

Good luck. This reminds me that I need to go back and make sure I haven't purchased any sooped up honda civics or houses lately. This is going to be a pain in your ass for a long time. Sorry - join the club.
