    Damn....knew this would happen, wwmd?

man...I jsut recieved THE phone call from a job in Phoenix and they offered it to me. I don't know whether to be stoked or not? THey would like to me to do an internship at first to see how things go beginning Feb. 6.

I'm facing a real dilemma here. They are a few other really cool jobs out there I am very interested in...Moab, NY, and now one in Montana. The skiing here in Logan has been epic as of late and I've had some offers to test more gear than I already am...free gear for my input!

I love Logan, my friends, the mountains, snow, change of seasons, biking, low crime, a clean city, cheap living, skiing all day and not seeing a soul.

I am told Wed. I will know about the job in Moab...Phoenix would like to know earlier..Monday. For Phoenix I need to negotiate benefits and the like. Salary is set and for 25-30 hours per week...its pretty damn good and allows me to continue my education and pursue a second Masters in Urban Ecology.

So now that the offer is on the table i have to make a possible life changing decision. If Moab, in particular Canyonlands, says no way, I'm off to Phoenix. If they say yes, I'm off to moab but have to let Phoenix know I'm nt heading there. Thing is, how would I do that after all the time and energy put into it?

Phoenix isn't all that bad is it? who am I kidding?

And all directions lead back up into the snowy moutains.

WWMD? The maggot in me says hold for Moab, as you seem to want that opportunity. The "I just spent lots of money for this higher degree and need to pay for it" says AZ is calling you.

What does J have to say, besides supporting you in whatever you want to do?

Life in AZ on a golf course ain't all bad, my dad does it 4 days a week in Tucson.

accept the phoenix job, if other things work out that sound better to you blow of phoenix. its not like you will put it on your resume and go looking for a recommendation later or anything.

That would be a very bad an unethical thing to do...especially in an industry you would like to succeed in.

And no its not a golf course job..its teaching turf management from 7.30 to 12.30, 5 days a week.

Start negotiating Phoenix, you can string that out until Wednesday. If it's not your first choice location-wise, maybe you can get some more $$$ out of them.

    X2.

I made my feelings about Phoenix known in the other thread, but more rational maggots than me pointed you in the right direction. Put in your career time as needed, then pick where you want to live when you get the flexibility.

If you want to delay Phoenix until Wed (so you can find out about Moab), tell Phoenix that your wife/ family/ whatever needs more time to think about Phoenix, and can you have until Wed to tell them... Basically make up a reason that doesn't come across sounding like "some skiers I know on the internet said Phoenix sucks, so I gotta reconsider."

And best of luck to you on this.

Do you have to leave Logan, or are these just oppurtunities that came along? I spent a week in Canyonlands prior to christmas and I came to the conclusion that I couldn't live in a climate like So. Utah, Arizona, NewMexico bla bla bla. The LaSalle's aren't too far away from there, I hear ya can ski 'em but I didn't spend enough time to really dig for info.

I'd hold out,if you can and if you aren't crazy about Phoenix. More will come your way.

    Stoy,

I was born and raised in Tucson, ~2 hrs S of Pheonix, had a misguided first colledge career in Flagstaff, 4 yrs in Ft Collins, CO while my wife went to vet school, and moved back to Tucson after she graduated. As much as I would like to live where it actually snows, My marriage, as well of my love of the beach at the Sea of Cortez compells me to remain here in Tucson. I console myself with the fact that no matter how frustrating winters in Arizona can be, at least I dont live in Phoenix. The place is a nightmare of pollution, traffic, and sprawl.

"I love Logan, my friends, the mountains, snow, change of seasons, biking, low crime, a clean city, cheap living, skiing all day and not seeing a soul."

The difference from this will be staggering.

That is not to say you will not be able to find the positives in Phoenix - Snowbowl in Flagstaff is a great litle mountain, with great tree skiing, steep runs, and great BC on the other side of the mountain. (When it snows, which is not this year) You will eat great mexican food. There are some good desert bike rides, and Sedona is two hours away. You can get to Puerto Penasco, MX in less that 4 hours, with the best sailing in the SW, including California. (I sail a Hobie 16 catamaran with my wife).

Plus, what El Chup sez. Good Luck, and post if you go. There are not many of us ski freaks, but there are a few...

Stall PHX as long as you can. If they demand an answer prior to the Moab offer accept the PHX gig with full intention of blowing them off if Moab pans out. It's business, nothing personal.

Not sure I can totally equate, but I've been slaving away for the man for 10 years. Pay has been good, allowed me to take a lot of trips and live comfortably. But I'm real close to hanging up the corporate life and doing something that is more rewarding even if it doesn't pay as well.

I guess what I would say is that you can be rich in the wallet or rich in the soul. Some very few individuals get both, but I'm not in that situation. For me, I'm looking to go for the soul wealth.

My 2 cents, if you think you'll be happier in UT or someplace other than PHX, and not be totally destitute, go that route. That's what I'm looking to do.

Just be straight up and tell them you'll need a couple of days before answering. If they can't handle that you can't handle them.

I know there is a lot to learn about Pheonix, and I don't have the best experience in it, but I hate the city. I have to go alteast once a year to see my grandma, and it drives me insane. The problem isnt the city, its what I like and dont like, and I certainly dont like big cities, suburban neighborhoods everywhere, palm trees, and no mountains in sight. Everytime I go I cant wait to get home. I hate walking around with not a mountain in sight. I love seeing the mountains when I walk out my front door. I couldnt imagine not having access to them. Even if it didnt snow in Utah, I still would miss hiking, biking, and everything else those mountains bring me.

I think you just need to think deep down, is it the enviorment for you? Is the job an essential thing to persueing your life? Do you have other options? If Pheonix is that important to your career, then you should take it, because in the long run, a better job and education can make you happier.

Agreed. Offering a job on Friday and telling you to decide by Monday on a job 800 miles away from home is garbage. If you're the guy they want, they'll happily wait until Wed. for a decision.

The suggestions to accept it and then blow it off if Moab comes through are terrible ideas, but you already know that.

Off topic, but Sheriff Joe is the schizz.

Stoy, you would adapt to Phoenix. And you would enjoy your time off in the Sonoran desert on your days off.

FWIW - its important to live near the activites you enjoy.
At this point with job shit, its important that you shape your career, not the other way around. How you start is key as to what paths open up in the future.
No to AZ is my vote.
