nice explanation of "that" feeling. Good decision making process, and also nice of you to show the respect to the patrol.
I know your doing this for you, not us, RIGHT??????????????????
MD, it was great to read this thread after meeting you Friday night when you were riding that particular high. Congrats again on an incredible flight and safe landing!
I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.
the only thing i can say is the words that came out of my mouth when i saw the pic "holy fuck"
very nice work. thats big.
haven't checked this thread out because of serious cuntage going on, but I gotta say! That huck is massive md9! Congrats. There is a great feeling off being untouchable when you huck, and I'm sure you were buzzing for days after that one!
Respect!
Great write up btw.
fore all you pencildicks in the Pierre thread who said big balls and faith in God is all it takes tto go big.
can you handle it?And then I hit the lip. It actually boosts me up above the cliff and into the air. And then I see the world below. This can't be real. My eyes just aren't believing what they're seeing. I instantly cover the ground needed to get away from the cliff and just keep flying. Soon my trajectory begins to shift I start to fall from the sky. I can see all my zig-zags below and know that I've done all I can to make sure I've got a good landing. At first I had nice tight form, but the further I fall I notice I'm starting to drift. I see my landing and it is the traverse the patrollers used the day before. I continue to drift more backseat. And then WHUMPH!!! I'm down. I can't see anything. Am I submerged?

I don't see you point, Woodsy. What would say fat/lazy/old me have done differently?
Not picking nits - being serious for a second.... ok, second's over.

I'm still not sure what was required beyond will and nerve, but will not belabor the point. Maybe I'm hung up on the whole "gravity affects us all the same" thought that some asshole planted in my noggin today.
but we doint all react to gravity the same is my point.
but hey you win,
go huck a 300 footer.
you believe in the jeebus dont you?
Sadly no.
I'm sorry this is such a personal issue for you Woodsy. Had I known I was pooping in your cereal with my admittedly uneducated opinion I would have refrained.
Take it easy on Woodsy, Tipp. He's feeling a little homesick right now. You'd be a little bit testy, too, if you had to leave BCC for NYC!
Bump because this thread deserves it. One of the best pic-less TRs ever.
Man, what a powerful read. With a new baby it definately hits close to home (granted my level is less, but of course I still have hopes of still stepping up)......time will tell.
The pics that followed the next week weren't bad too......and is really the GRAND FINALE of the story!

man that's sick, looked up jared allen boss hog and saw you and shane laying it out, hell yeah if i ever get to the basin on a big day that needs to get sent. reading the OP, so true on all that. sitting around with a broken leg, the hardest part has been not being able to go out and scare the shit out of myself, since that's all i did all winter.
it's your ticket. just get on the line you want before it gets punched. besides no one dies before their time.
Wow. This is a blast from the past. That was my first season back in Utah. This past winter was the 5th. It's been awhile. Being back in Utah has been awesome.
Here's a profile shot of the same hit from last season (shot by my dad, GT40):
And here's one from across the ridge from this season(also shot by my dad):
One more shot from this season by my brother (MOE):
5 years later and it still mentally wrecks me.
I was able to jump some other big features in new locations (for me anyway) this winter, but the photographers don't want things posted as it's how they make their living.
remember reading somewhere that you dudes are mormon (correct me if i'm wrong). funny cuz the kid i got lucky enough to ski and follow all year was lds, and was pretty fucking crazy as well. this being my first year off the east fucking coast i had high expectations, and met most of them despite a mostly mediocre winter. my main goal was to send a 50 footer, my best guess puts my biggest around 40ish. man, shit gets gnarly. whenever you make the venture down to LCC, i'd love to ski a couple runs and pick your brain about shit, sounds like you're wired pretty similar to me. but man, i can't believe how far out you sent that thing! reminds me of when i just decided i was going to take as much speed as possible into election at the bird, but that's maybe a third as big. snowbasin is high on my list no thanks to you guys haha.
ectreeskier, I guess we're quasi-mormon. I was raised in the church, but I'm no longer a member. I definitely learned a lot of good things from the religion and respect a lot of people who still believe that way (my dad for one), but I myself am an atheist.
I've had fun following your posts/videos about the bird. If ever you find yourself up at 'basin let me know. I'd gladly show you around. Sometimes it's hard to guess what days things will go down up that way as gates don't always open when you think they will. It was a tough season huckers until late in the year.
