recommend powder and packed pow tele setup?

I ski mostly in VT, but usually make it out west a couple weeks/year to hit the deep stuff. I want some fairly wide skis for teleing that can handle some pretty deep snow but can also carve up eastern snow when it's not too bulletproof (I ski alpine on the boilerplate). Also do some backcountry out west and what there is around here.

I was thinking that mounting some Rottefeller R-8's on volkl mantras would fit the bill pretty nicely.

    Any recommendations/advice?

    Thanks

    I have a pair of Volkl t-rocks in a 172 if you're interested
With 87 under foot and a perfect sidecut for groomers it should fit what you're looking for.

You care about weight? You can pick up some Head M85's for around $300 bucks.

I would recommend you head over to tech talk and you will get more answers but thank you for being polite

The following answer doesn't take into account your steeze, size, or current sticks.

Actually, I think the Mantra would be good if you spent a little more time out west. I have 184 Mantras as an AT setup, 180 T-Rocks as my only tel setup for IB/BC and 185 Karmas for everyday inbounds (I'm in Idaho but we don't get too much light and dry here) plus some bigger alpine boards on the off chance we do get dumpage or I road trip. I think the T-Rock (one less layer of metal)would fit the bill for you...87mm under foot, same sidecut as the Karma, and not quite as stiff as the Karma and noticeably more flex than the Mantra. The Mantra clocks in with a 94 waist so you won't be giving up much there with the T-Rock. I think the T-Rock is one of the stiffer tele specific boards out there. I used to ski on some stiffer alpine boards as tele and I think the T-Rock is just about perfect for me. I'm biased towards Volkl, no reason than I've always liked their skis...I don't even get shop form anymore

    thanks for the info

thanks for the input guys, I had looked at the T-rocks before and they do look pretty sweet for what I want. I need a little longer than 172 though (195lbs, 6'2"), but thanks for the offer.

I'll drop my first post on the tech forum.

Rip some of that snow you lucky bastards have been getting!

I'm 6' 200 and the 180 seems about right in the T-Rock, I could have gove a little longer but the 180 is the longest they make.
