Wife's hands get cold (mittens help)...

Looking for a mitten, which must have some internal fingers.

I've searched: people like Hestra (big bucks), Cabelas gauntlets (cheaper). Marmot Randonee ski mitt is out because of no internal fingers.

Questions
Do the Hestra's mittens have internal slots for fingers?
Has anyone tried the Black Diamond Mercury mitten for skiing?
Any other suggestions?

why do you need the internal fingers? i don't get that concept as it seems to defeat the purpose of mittens in the first place. anyway, burton makes some nice mitts w/ the internal fingers.

Yeah, I think the internal fingers are a compromise offering better feel than a mitten, but more warmth than a glove.

It's her personal preference, which is hard to argue with.

I have a pair of the Burton's and they work well for me. She didn't like the Burton mitts that she tried.

cayenne pepper on her fingers should help increase blood flow.

yup, im w/ ya on that! my wife returned the burtons because of the finger slots. she ended up w/ a pair of rei brand which i don't think will be warm enough as she gets cold easily...but, i kept my mouth shut and we'll buy different one's if they don't work!

i have a pair of boiled wool inserts w/ a climb high over mitt...i can only wear those when its way below zero...toasty!

You are right. I have heard of that, mainly for the feets, though.
May use that as a last resort for the hands, as I can think of some interesting
consequences from putting pepper on the hands.

Gracias. I will look at those some more to see if they have smaller sizes. The Cloudveil pair she tried at Erehwon were too big in a S. They did seem good and toasty.

Tougher to find, but have her try a 3-finger mitt like these.

My wife also had problems with gloves and cold hands, and mittens were too clumsy. She's been using a trigger mitt shell and a fleece innerglove and has been good down to 0F.

I'll find out what brand/model she's using and let you know tomorrow.

Yeah TomK, that Black Diamond Mercury Mitten has a 3 finger primaloft liner inside a standard mitten shell. I am leaning that way, but wondered if there were very bulky or not.
I suck at the internet, otherwise I would post a pic of those mitts (with liner removed).

That's why I'm hesitant for her to use cayenne pepper for this!

Swany mittens have internal finger dividers. And a heater pocket. My only problem is that I wish they went higher up on my wrists.

I've been looking for new mittens, but can't find any good ones with heater pockets this year.

Altagirl, thanks. Haven't found many Swany around there (Chicago) to try on. The heater packs sound like a good idea, but again, tough to find. I'll look at those to see how high the cuff goes.

There used to be a glove called Lunarmitts, that had fingers in the mitten. Warmest ghings I ever had for my hands for skiing. I don't think they are still around though.

Good tip for folks who's browser has this option. (my IE 6.0 doesn't)

It's available on the Firefox browser, but there's a registry tweek needed to add it to Internet Exploder 6 or 7 and I would not feel comfortable directing folks to go poking around in thier PC's registry. Things in there break often enough just from adding and removing programs as it is.

There's a band you can buy which goes on the writs and is intended to open the blood vessels and capillaries into the hand, making it warmer. Supposed to work pretty well.
