We're not lucky enough to be critics who get sent every album released, so I guess this will be a little biased.
Post what your favorite 5 purchased albums of 2005 are. Any more than five, I'll poop on your I-love-every-album-I-buy attitude.

Do you mean albums that were released in 2005? These were pretty good:
The Music - Welcome to the North
Hammock - Kenotic
Magnet - On Your Side
Most of the albums I bought last year were older ones.
Citizen Cope: "Clarence Greenwood Recordings" (but I didn't technically "buy" it)
Call me what you will, but I reall like the new Mary J. Blige album "Breakthrough."
these were nice:
The Hold Steady- Separation Sunday
Of Montreal- The Sunlandis Twins
Harvey Danger- Little By Little
Calexico/Iron & wine- In The Reins
Sleater-Kinney- Woods
Okkervil river- Black Sheep Boy
New Pornographers- Twin Cinema
Your dog just ate an avocado!

Ummm... yes? (I don't get it.)
The Mars Volta- "Frances the Mute"
Buy nice things here.

Whenever these year end polls come out it makes me realize how little new music I buy these days. It seems to get worse every year!
By the way, I think that Citizen Cope album came out in 2004, so doesn't qualify.
Here's the best I can come up with:
Beck - Guero
The Church - El Momento Descuidado
Sun Kil Moon - Tiny Cities
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Z by My Morning Jacket seems pretty good, but I only bought it a couple weeks ago, so haven't listened to it enough.
Brian Eno - Another Day on Earth
fine
Tuffy: You like Eno? "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" by Eno/Byrne is one of my all time favorite albums for when I'm altered.
The Long Winters - Ultimatum EP
Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah - Self Titled

Good year IMO. My favorites:
Gorrilaz - Demon Days
The Herbaliser - Take London
Dubble Dee - Reachin' Out
Ladytron - Witching Hour
Doves - Some Cities
edit:
..doh six in there. Guero now only gets honorable remention.

Gotta give the nod to the new Monk/Coltrane record, and big ups to Fiona for her new one, too. Almost everything else I've bought this year has been old.

edit: please move on, nothing to see here...........

Hev is on it.
1st - Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
2nd - Gorillaz - Demon Days
3rd-10th (all pretty close, those other two are just on their own level)
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Sigur Ros - Takk
Doves - Some Cities
Andrew Bird - Bowl of Fire
Ladytron - Witching Hour
Beck - Guero
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
Coldplay - x+y (sure they rip off radiohead left and right and aren't at all original, but at least they admit it.)
'06 looks really promising. New Radiohead, Flaming Lips, Grandaddy, and TV on The Radio.![]()
Anyone heard the new Strokes yet? I have not, aside from some demo shit that may not have made it on. Anyway, leaving off the ones already mentioned, I think:
My Morning Jacket- Z
The Hold Steady- Separation Sunday
Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen Mary
Maximo Park- A Certain Trigger
Kanye West- Late Registration (that pop enough for ya Benny?)
John Legend-Get Lifted
Bloc Party-Silent Alarm
Panic! At The Disco-A Fever You Can't Sweat Out
Imogen Heap-Speak For Yourself
Kaiser Chiefs-Employment
Wow I have a hella diverse music list. If only I had some rap in there, then I would have R&B, Indie, Emo, Electronic, Alt, AND Rap.
Honorable Mention to Anthony Hamilton-Ain't Nobody Worryin' the next new soul for soul, and The Fray-How To Save a Life and Augustana-All the Stars and Boulevards for great rock that seriously could change people's lives, but since I haven't listened to all of their albums...
Audioslave - Out of Exile
SOAD - Hypnotize
Franz Ferdinand - dont know the name
"You Could Have It So Much Better."
everyone tells me I should love WOlf Parade, but I dunno.
convince me once I am back there?
Josh Rouse-Nashville
In the Reins -Calexico & Iron & wine
Sun Volt-Okemah
Illinoise ( anyone got a line on Lincoln Center Sufjan tix???)
the live Monk Coltrane reissue
& if we are including live performanc albums
then
Kill your Television-wilco
ALive and Wired -Old 97's
but shit thats 7.
bring your poop.

Think I only bought 4 this year, only 3 of which I can recommend:
Deep Purple - Rapture Of The Deep Best of the Morse era IMO
Deli Creeps - Dawn Of The Deli Creeps I love these guys!
Buckethead - Enter The Chicken Buncha special guest singers
"The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size."
One I forgot about I like is "Descended Like Vultures" by Rogue Wave.
bright eyes - i'm awake it's morning, but not digital ash in a digital urn
fine
It's hard to choose a top 5. Here are the first ones that come to mind, in no particular order. I've got ~850 or so albums, so it's tough to pick
Death from Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a machine
Vitalic - Ok Cowboy
The Libertines - Self Titled (it's 2004, but I still like it)
Scissor Sisters - Self Titled
The White Stripes - Get Behind me Satan
Fake edit: That brughteyes album is really good too.
