    thanks for the info
    much appreciated

I'll be making many laps to ootah in the next couple months, sounds like the Cottenwoods will wait for next time - certain key lifts didn't open today at the Basin...

I presume no one is touring tomorrow AM? BC maybe sketchy with the heavy layer on top of the last storm...saw some interesting slabbing today...

In other news, I'm really not so sure I love the Spats that much. Don't get me wrong, they rip, and you can HAUL ASS with them. And in crud and thicker snow such as today, they crush pretty much everything. And yes, they take less effort, so you can ski longer. And they provide so much platform, it's awfully easy to land airs...

...but, seriously, I think they're making me ski funny, no joke. I'm overturning, my arms are getting sloppy, and I'm not carving into turns. My upper body is getting less calm, which - trust me - wasn't calm to begin with...

    I dunno...

Have to say, I think I may like the Sugar Daddy/Bro Model profile better than anything else I've tried yet. But we'll see. Haven't mounted the Big Daddy's yet, and it's only day 4 on the Spats.

Bird for us tomorrow. I must of been right behind you this morning Natty, I saw that carnage.

So far I've been interlodged alot, worked my ass off for the last couple weeks, and skiing all day everyday. It's so awesome to be up there killing it with the boys and the lady.

Yoss, I gave my Spats to my co-workers to try out last week, and they've been used everyday. I haven't been riding mine much this year, and bought a gotoma set-up for everyday. They seem more fun than my Spats, and my skiing has improved alot since switching back to the gotomas.

    Glad your doing better AC!

Natty, how long are you in town? I need to try and make it down there and chase you around the mountain.

I still love skiing them, but I hear what you are saying. [Epicski Post]With the reverse sidecut, you can't carve on them. Thus, you are required to use more rotary movements to turn the skis. You need to work on separating the upper and lower body to make the rotary movements. It sounds like you are using some upper body rotary movements, which are inefficient. The hip socket is the key - that's where your turning movements should be coming from.[/Epicski Post][/hijack]

It was pretty sweet yesterday - skied with DTM, then a couple with Harpo, and finally a couple with Smitty and ptaav. Good work by ptaav to ask for change while waiting for Supreme to open.

Hauling ass is why I haven't really dug mine. I've burried a tip twice hauling ass out the bottom of Backside. The resulting beater really wasn't that fun. I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I start going fast I'm scared to death of sinking a tip when transferring between turns. But I think this is a tele problem only because when I alpine it, they feel freaking awesome and I'm not worried. I guess I'm just not a fan of the mount being so centered on the ski when teleing.

But, they are fun to do tele-slide turns with, and did deal well with the heavier snow. And for some reason, I feel more comfortable hucking on my Stockli's than the Spats. Course, that could be the added 10cm of length.

Oh, and probably too late for ya now, but the bc was actually not as sketchy as I had thought. Telephil and I went up Grizzly early this morning and cornice kicking yielded only surface sluffage. And Phil did manage to kick off a good refrigerator size chunk (which almost took him with, which I found amusing, but scared the hell out of him). We stuck to low angle trees and tried to cut a couple steep rollovers and couldn't get anything to move. Good snow up there too.

The fun part was right when we got to Twin Lakes pass, control work from Solitude started. A couple of those blasts were damn loud and freaked us out. Fun morning.

FYI, it was ridiculously good up at Alta again this morning. The 3" or so of fresh, plus the strong W/NW winds meant smooooooth buffy goodness. Plus, no one was there (I got a first row chair on Collins when I showed up at 8:55). Did a high boy, 4 wests, a lone pine, and a couple thirds. HIghlight was the run from thirds to garbage chute at 11:15 - not a single track in front of AG or I when we got down to the little zone just skiers left of rope a dope. MM MMM!

Got off the phone with Natty just a bit ago and he is grinning ear to ear thru the phone, he said [insert super excited voice] RON!! Dude, it is so sweet up here, creamy goodness and I am skiing with my dad!!"

Then he had to go and I don't blame him, needed to start a hike.

Alta is growing on me and I look forward to next time.

I'll second what stump said (I was on second chair at Collins ).

They opened up Kathrine's Area at about 10:05 or so and I skied four laps in there that were absoultely awesome. Untouched pow every run...

Later on East Greely was awesome, the winds picked up from what they were this morning and kept it nice and buffed with a few inches of easy to push snow on the top. Did three or four laps there before my legs decided to give up.

Mineral Basin wasn't too bad either as long as you stuck to the wind buff off of Baldy Express (right under the lift was super creamy).

My legs were crying from yesterday and today absolutely did me in (good thing it's my last day here I guess).

    Hey CS,

Question for ya, didja see any big fracture lines near the top of Patsy? I'm wondering since viz was so terrible early Monday, what with the wind and horizontal snow. I initially thought we were seeing windformed cornices as we approached the ridge (we'd seen some pretty striking ones further down the gulch), then I got a little spooked when I thought they might actually be fractures. Just curious.

I asked over in the other forum and didn't get a reply.

So were you one of the gaggle of folks who decided to take the high entrance to the T and got rewarded for their work with the sight of a pudgy, redjacketed zephyr zooming past as he motoed through the low entrance?

Hey Phunk, did Baldy open over at the Bird?

I didn't see you, I was the first one onto the High T this morning (the guys on first chair were gapers) and took the high route. Lapped that twice and then headed over to Supreme to wait for Katerine's to open after a patroller I talked to said they were going to open it shortly. Supreme Bowl was actually pretty nice this morning before it got all tracked up, the wind last night buffed out all the cut up crud from yesterday afternoon.

Would've been cool to meet up then I suppose

Was anyone else present for when Katherine's rope got dropped? It was awesome out there... I was getting off the lift as the patroller was skating up to the gate to drop it, just perfect timing

We didn't notice any anywhere. We stayed on super super mellow terrain though all the way up. Had the same conditions it sounds like that you did, wind and snow. So we couldn't really see that high up either, but we were both actually quite surprised at the stability on some of the steeper aspects we tried out. Wish I could've spent more time up there.

I thought it unpossible for today to be as good as yesterday. But it was. Everybody was agrinning and awhooping.
Decided to break out the W105s to see if I could still turn a normal ski and interestingly I found I was skiing better on regular skis after a few days on the spats. I think it may have been that the spats force me to be more balanced and this translated well onto the 105s.
Didn't see any mags other than str8, but coulda been cause I got a late start and was poking around with my dad. Stellar day.
