New Deuter Razor Backpack with back protection

Just took delivery of my new skiing / boarding backpack. Fits really well and has good back protection that also covers the lower back.

    the good bits are:

    Back protector board
Integrated whistle in the buckle of the chest strap
removeable helmet carrier that swallows up my Full Face helmet
    soft lined goggle pocket
internal front shovel section plus ice axe holder
Nice gear loop on the left hip belt, perfect.
A-mount skis or straight mount the skis/board
    Bulletproof Deuter construction
Handy Alpine rescue sheet with signals, instruction for emergencies

I love Deuter stuff, they last.....and doesn't look too shabby either ....

Just thought i'd share my backpack stoke...

Just got myself one. What an awesome quality piece of kit. How did it test in the field?

I like it a lot. The lower back protection gives you a lot of confidence. lots of pockets, hooks, loops.

i have one small question about the design though.

One of the helmet holder loops has come free. I won't be using it so i'm not fussed but the loops aren't secured enough i think. So be careful using the helmet holder, you don't wanna lose the helmet on a steep section. I'm going to send the backpack back for a replacement at the end ofk the season.

Apart from that, mint . Love it.

How does the helmet holder work? Haven't worked that bit out yet. I don't think I got the full instruction manual with my pack.

The vertical ski carrying system seems pretty good and there are compression straps everywhere. Would never have realised the thing onthe chest strap doubled as a whistle.

Currently looking for an instruction manual pdf to download.

In the zip pouch on the right hand hip belt, you'll find the helmet holder net with is an elasticated mesh with 4 hooks on it.

Then look at the back of the backpack and you'll see 4 small orange loops. Hook in the 2 lower hooks, put in the helmet and then hook in the upper 2.

The chest strap also has a breathing loop on it to allow you to tie it up tight while still allowing you to breathe, genius in my book.

I love deuter stuff, i have no less than 5 deuter rucksacks for various purposes. The refuse to die and have saved me many times on mountain bikes. I feel naked without a pack now when i'm biking and skiing.

    And only $130.

Thats not too bad compared to how much my Arc'Teryx pack was.

    Birthday present for Roo.

I don't think I've ever seen a piece of ski kit so obsessively overengineered in my life.

A "breathing loop"? You mean a piece of elastic that stretches? Dakine packs have had this for a long time.

Honestly I think most pack makers caught onto this concept a long time ago.

The Deuter pack uses energy from your breathing to power an internal dehumidifier.

I know they've been around for a while. It used to drive me up the wall until 98 when i got a deuter pack. Then life was comfortable and well fitting. Still makes me happy now.

The loop is also attached to a zero-point battery pack that powers the helicopter blades that come out of the shoulder straps to take you straight back up to the top of the powder runs. The more you work, the higher the '©BackCopter' takes you. It also massages your back if you get tense.
