    Alternate Uses for Gear

I have a Da Kine pack that currently doubles as a diaper pack. This makes the pack sad and proud at the same time.

My headlamp is currently being used by a six year old to read in her room and in the car at night.

An old hockey stick currently serves as a drying rack for winter sausages in my father-in-law's garage.

    You?

Ski pole used for holding the tailgate of my old jeep up. Old skis turned into a bench.

My Thule box comes in useful when I have to move into a new apartment.

Cycling tights make for a great base layer on cold days.

HA HA HA.....those are all great alternate uses for gear. Back in the day when I was racing, my parents purchased home gym equipment for me to workout....today the universal weight maching doubles as an extra clothes rack for my mom, and the swinging arms of the Elipical machine is a great way for my dad to dry is hip-waders! And my ski tuning bench in the basement was covered in ice fishing crap! God, I really hope I don't ever lose my love for the sport - I am going to ski until the day I dye!

My surfboard, unmounted monoski and a pair of my wife's skis are all currently acting as shelves in my garage.

Some of my old helmets are hanging upside down by their chinstraps and I am using them as bins to store hats and gloves.

I use one of my skateboards to cart larger bins around the garage, and for the occasional use of moving furniture.

I use my other skateboard (longboard) to lay on under the car when I an changing my oil, etc.

I use some of my ice axes to clear the typical Subaru wheel well snow build-up (watch those brake lines!!!).

I use my single broken Smith z-bend pole in my firepit.

I use my quickdraws & carabiners to run extension cords around the garage and to keep the cord of my iron out of my way when waxing skis.
