Possible restrictions on Route 88 part deux: the much lamer sequel

Say I was contemplating a KW mission approaching from the west under cover of darkness, including planned subaru bivy, for some 1st chair action mañana. Say as of 18:00, 88 is closed for avy control work.
Does 88 ever open during the night (or, does CalTrans work through the night?) or am I going to have to wait for CalTrans to do it (doooo it) in the am? Am I better off driving 50 -> SLT bivy -> normal AM pilgrimage or should I go for the glory?

Yes CalTRANS works through the night, but that doesn't guarantee an opening over the Spur.

    GO FOR GLORY!

If I were you I'd take the 80 towards Sacramento (keep checking with CalTRANS along the way) and if the Spur is open by the time you're past Folsom, take the Latrobe Rd. exit in El Dorado Hills. Go south to HWY 16, then go left on 16 to 49 to Jackson to 88. If it's still not open, continue to the 50.

Should you wish to camp out in West sacramento to wait for 88 to open, you're welcome to.

PM or call me in that case.

Please, oh please, leave me some tracks for Wednesday. Oh wait, it's Kirkwood, you can't possibly ski them all, and there'll hardly be anyone there. =) (+++++thoughts++++++)

You might get an opening from SLT, you might not. Jackson-side of 88 will probably open a bit earlier, but it's a helluva drive. Radar looks pretty good. Best bet for 1st tracks though, eh?

    Hop -- see you tonight.

Since I'm stuck here in SLT, my boss gave me the "don't worry about work tomorrow, drive back home when it's safe"...line....

...I think it'll be safe only after Lower Cirque and Thunder Saddle have been thoroughly lapped. OH YEAH!!

    See you bitches tomorrow.

Take 50. AKA and I got stuck at Carson Pass for over an hour and a half. When they did let us through it was one way controlled traffic to the East. They put up a sign at Pickets junction saying the road was closed headed West. The Spur was shut too. I'm guessing they let people out in a one shot window, but who knows. It's closed right now, and I doubt it will open until tomorrow. Especially if it's still coming down hard out there.

The infamous phrase was invoked today. I took it a bit easy today since my legs still aren't all there, but hit a nice 15 footer to absolutely perfect landing. It was like buttah! AKA claimed deepest landing of his life on one hit. Not everything had a super deep landing, but it was pretty much all in play.

Also, thanks for mentioning the Saddle...that's gonna be stuck in my head for the next 24 hours. If anyone wants to see a grown man cry at work, stop by my office tomorrow.

best source for status of hw88 or any for that matter:

    cad.chp.ca.gov

    Stockton section [for 88 Carson]
Truckee section [for 50 and 89]
Sacremento section [for parts of 50]

seems like chp reports the incident/closure - caltrans puts up on their website an hour later or so. It will sometimes have an ETO if one exists.
