The current view from the hangar

We have been getting POUNDED by cycle after cycle in Girdwood. The pace is pretty much buried. We are working overtime cutting our Cat trail. Should have cat skiing rolling in a few days. Lots of explosives to huck though.

Just took this out the back window too. The deep snow is driving all of the moose out of the hills.

I think this is the first Owens post where the moose doesn't have a brain full of buckshot. You're slipping bro.

I was tempted to give him a lead labotomy. We have a giant freezer in the hangar and a snowcat to drag the carcas with. Too bad the gun is so damn loud. maybe I should have jumped him, bull wresteled him and knifed him in the temple.

    I'm disappointed....thought you'd do it barehanded.

Heh. I was walking up the old trail from Old Girdwood up to the Dive one night many many years ago when I confronted a bull moose on his way down the valley.

It was a single track trail, and the snow banks were head high. Snow was falling hard, with about six inches new in the trail.

We both stopped dead in our tracks. He would have stopped deader if I was armed, but I was out for cougar that night, not moose.

Then, after eyeing me for a bit, he made it clear just whose trail we were on.

    And it wasn't mine.

So, I climbed into the snowbank to let him pass, getting rather a bit of snow in my boots in the process. I didn't get but three feet or so off the trail and he ambled on by. His rack cleared me by less than a foot.

Remind me again why I ever left that town?

That obviously is not an Alaskan sign as there are no bullet holes in it.
