bad media
This link is from the NBC affiliate in Portland, Oregon. It is filled with misinformationa dn mischaracterisations of how avalanches work: http://www.kgw.com/news-local/storie....16d59c6f.html
Aside from the "Hey dumbass..." letter to the editor, how can we as backcountry users respond to crapola like this?
What are our stakes in responding to articles like this? We know that when a rescue costs tax payer dollars the 'who should pay' arguement will come up. We also klnow that is the tip of the iceberg in the public policy, user access, rescue preparedness, ski area boundaries, and many other arguements that come up and are effected by what I see as this bad press.
Discuss.
