Thumbs up dun learnt how to 'bile this morning!

6:30 AM found four of us and 3 sleds at the Snake Creek trailhead outside of Midway, UT. Crash course for me in snowmobile driving! after a rocky start in the parking log (how do you turn this thing?), I managed to get a feel for it on the open, snowpacked, and stutter-bumped road. Just as my confidence was building, I saw the other two sleds dive off into the trees and start climbing a steep, off-camber gully. Oh joy! I only dumped it over once, and it was low-speed and easily righted. Then I discovered the joy of roosting at 40mph through wide-open pow fields

I wouldn't pick it as an only sport, but I could see owning one of these things for ski access. Which is why we were there in the first place. Got to the start of the skintrack at about 7:20, right at the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen. Deep purples, pinks, and oranges flashed over Heber Valley, which was still shrouded in a layer of thick fog. House lights sparkled through the fog, creating a mini-universe below as the still-visible stars above began to fade. Unbelievable.

Then there was the skiing: around 15" of pow, super controllable, super fun. A nasty skintrack and some skin stick issues, but otherwise a blast. A lot of cussing and getting pissed off at my bc skiing companions ensued from the technical difficulties, but by the third lap up the skintrack everything was pretty well dialed in. One last steep pow shot to end the day, and back to the biles. And did I mention more fun blasting through big flat pow fields? Yes, there was more of that. In to work by 11am. Can't beat it.

    Wink

I got out of work at 3AM only to find that both the outside and inside of my truck's windows were coated with ice and needed scraping before I could drive home. 6 hours later, I'm back at work.

You sir, can lick my balls.

actually, they only were really smelly when we first started 'em. not too bad once running tho.

Xover--yeah i have a bad history with personal motorized vehicles (SeaDoos, ATVs) so I've avoided biles up to this point. Seemed to go well with a healthy dose of caution today tho.

Yeah, I dug snowmobiles out of deep snow on saturday. Got to ride them a little. I'm still a fackin' jong, especially when it gets deep. But, if you had sleds, why were you skinning?

Yeah i think if it'd been deep I would've been screwed. I could gun it across the freshies (maybe 8-12" in the field) and get up and plane on it no prob tho...but it was mostly flat.

1080--we were skinning to get to the good stuff that wasn't all highmarked out Really tight trees, steep narrow traverses, etc...basically where the sleds couldn't go.

While we were skinning, we accessed a ridgeline and there were a bunch of sleds brapppping around on the other side, and I caught myself getting all pissy that they were disturbing my nice peaceful hike up. Doh.
