    Learning to Huck Cliffs

Alright i've been skiing about 15 years now, and i've primarily done race skiing and powder, but i've never really done any big tricks or hucked cliffs and i'd love to get into that. So are there any tips you can give a newbie whos just getting started? Also I live in SLC part of the year (ski season luckily) so which resort do you think is best for small cliffs. I was up at snowbird yesterday chow'n some pow over on the backside but those were a little bigger than i'd care to start on.
    Thx
    Chris

The bird is a great place to work on small rocks. There's a ton of them around there. Just ski up to the cliff and jump off. Use your brain with regard to slope of the landing and snow conditions. You can't go wrong.

My technique for hucking cliffs is to ski off and let gravity have it's way.

Don't get caught up thinking about it, just do it, like MD says.

And it sounds like phUnk is giving lessons in exchange for a rebuild on his cars transmission. Grab a Chiltons book and you're in there.

Find a small cliff (10 - 15 footer) with a steep landing and lots of snow (at least a foot of fresh). Snowboids got em.

Get enough speed that you're sure to clear any exposed rock, pop off the takeoff (don't just limply drop), pull up your knees, extend your hands forward, reach for the landing a bit, and land on your feet. Focus your eyes on your landing and just ahead of it. Don't pump your arms in the air like an idiot - thats my move.

Do that same cliff over and over (landing in different places each time, so you've got a soft drop) until you "feel it". Work on your balance, on controlling your landing, and skiing out of it like it was no thang.

Once you've done that, you're a rockstar. Go huck something huge.

Backs of your skis would be preferable to landing on your head. Just land over the middle of your skis. Slapping your back suks.

just ski up and make sure you can clear everything but make sure to extend your legs (with your knees bent) for the landing so you don't hit to hard and smack your face, or chin on your knees cuz that sucks!
