merry frickin' christmas and a happy new year to all! santa is bringing me what i asked for this year: a series of powerful pacific storms lined up in the pacific. 5 of them stacked up and set to deliver the goods from tomorrow through next week. i will be holed up in truckee for the next 2 weeks, getting into that cycle of : wake at crack of dawn, shovel car out, make it to alpine for first chair, ski pow until legs are cooked, hit river ranch for post-session beers and tall tale swapping, go home, eat, sit in hot tub, sleep, wake and repeat.....I love these strom cycles! happy holidays all!

I'd say it's 50/50. I need to get up there but I'd have to make an early run up then take off around 1 and drive to Yuba City. If it's howling winds and 6" I'm shitcanning it. If it's 12"+ and not a hurricane then I'm up. Holding pattern for now.
When I rolled in this morning the wind was already howling but the sun was still peaking through. By 1:00 though it had started puking and the wind really kicked it up a notch. Chair 10 was shutdown sometime around noon and 6 was on hold at 2:00 when I decided that skiing chair 5 in a hurricane wasn't worth it and split. It was definetley dumping, probably an inch at the top, and as I just walked into the house in Sparks there were flurries falling on my head. Im not gonna be able to ski tommorow since the shop has one of my boots but I will definetly be there to unwrap my gift on thursday morning.

Today's storm which is a warm one han't amounted to much inland and the Sierra's as expected. Wednesday night into Thursday when the cold air starts coming in will be the present I'm waiting for. Would not put too much confidence into forecasts details and timing as the NWS ususally gets these big storm series all backackwards.
Skied KW Monday in the partly cloudy flat light. Nice buttery smooth bumps in late afternoon with good light everywhere in shadows lit from thin high clouds. The steep north facing Cirque is always shadowed this time of year but when it is well lit from sun illuminated high clouds, it can make for a reasonable photo with some Photoshop enhancements. I shot these two which shows where all the rocks be early season. Quite the playground for you happy lizards.
Damn SSSDave. Can't you do better than that for me? I just waxed my skis.
I want to hear about a 1.5 inch rise in caples lake water levels and ground squirrles running around in circles, the sure sign of a sudden cold snap which is likely to leave snow levels right along the 49 from auburn to jackson.
Gee I don't know how to link to the TGR User Gallery do I Splat? Or at least to identify an image there. Put a post into the "Ask TGR" forum to enlighten this ignorant one. In the mean time one can select "User Galleries" then select Mountain
then view the images of The Cirque for Dec 23.
mdump, I just got a tune up with wax too, but [anti jinx] we don't want to disturb the snow gods now do we? [/anti jinx]

Not sure if you're asking me if you know or I don't. But since I'm a User Galley JONG, I was hoping the link would take me to the pic.
But your directions got me to the Cirque.
Did not get a response from my "Ask TGR" post yet but with that URL on my image you posted, I was able to figure this out, so guess I'm only half a JONG now. In case anyone else needs to do this try following the below.
If from the TGR homepage one selects "MY TGR" then "USER Galleries" the web page changes to the top folders for image categories, the top one being "Mountain". Selecting "Mountain" brings one to another list of sub folders, the top one being "Ski Stoke". Selecting the first "Ski Stoke" image brings up all the thumbnail images under that. Putting one's mouse over any image brings up the image file name. If one just mouse selects that image, say this one the following URL form shows:
The URL shown is relative and will change as other images are added to the gallery thus cannot be used as a link. Apparently I have a numeric member code 10898 which other than from your URL Geoff, I don't know how I would otherwise find out that number. With that I can access any images posted by appending the filename to URL prefix: http://www.tetongravity.com/usergall...serpics/10898/
Looking good finally and Reno 4:30pm forecast discussion's enthusiastic. Caples temp after being at freezing point all day just dropped from 32 to 26 degrees between 2 and 4pm and snowing heavily with 0.34 inch in tip bucket for the last 2 hours. Tomorrow is looking like storm skiing but probably better at Sierra At Tahoe since the jetstream will be right on top of Tahoe thus may close wind exposed lifts. -dave
