    OSX/iPud Questions.

First off my gf got me a black 30gig iPud for christmas. Sickter!

Okay, now here comes the questions and small rant.

Does an iPod software update erase all my songs? I've heard one or two horror stories of peeps gettings everything erased when installing new iPod software.

When I do update and if the songs are still there, are they properly formatted to work on the new iPud? Once again I'ver heard mumblings of old files not working and that only files downloaded from iTunes work with the new iPud. Vrai?

Okay now about OS X. I've got a G4 Powerbook with OS X 10.2.8. iPud says that it doesn't work with anything previous to OS X 10.3.9. So, first off, where the fuck can I download a free copy of 10.3 Panther, cause I'm sure as hell don't want to spend a hundy to get my iPud working. And as far as Apple goes, what fucking greedy ass bastard requires the lastest goddamn OS that is released every other fucking month in order to run their $300 product you just bought off of them. You think they'd have a little loyalty to Apple consumers. Considering you can install the newest iTunes/iPud updates on windows 2000, but can't install on an apple unless you bought the new OS released a couple of months ago. Fockers.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't worry about your songs, but if you must, dupe all of them to a new location.

As far as the new OS, sorry, fork it over, it's a greedy world.

[nerd]Apple made huge changes under the hood between OS X 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and now 10.4. 10.5 probably won't be as big of a leap. OS X is still pretty new, so that's why they've had to make big changes. Win 2k was nothing more than Win NT all fancied up; and Win NT was around for a long time. Anyway, it's because of these major changes that you need to have 10.3 or 10.4. Does it suck? To a degree, but the other improvements in the OS vastly outweight the negatives.[/nerd]
