Yesterday my better half was making a left hand turn when an oncoming car changed lanes and tried to beat the light. The speed limit is 45 but the car was acclerating at her and never hit the brakes. She was hit hard and unfortunately was not wearing a seat belt. She was tossed around in the car and hit her head hard enough on something that it took 8 staples to close the gash on the top of her head. She has no memory of the accident itself but all other brain function is normal. X-rays and a couple ct scans show that nothing is broken but due to the amount of neck pain she has she's in an Aspen collar until we can get to a neuro surgeon next week. Hopefully it's just muscle strains and nothing more.
There is no worse feeling than getting a call from a loved ones cell phone only to not recognize the voice on the line. Then to have that voice tell you that your loved one is being loaded into an ambulance bleeding badly with head and neck trauma conjures up the worst scenarios imgainable. The time between that call and actually being able to see her in the ER was excruciating to say the least. It was a long day but she walked out of the hospital on her own. It seems we got very lucky this time.
We have much to be thankful for on this holiday.
