It sucks when your backyard floods

I woke up this morning to my wife, "Oh shit!". She was looking out the bedroom window. I peered out into the dawn light. There was water overflowing out of the banks of our creek in the backyard. Now this wouldn't be a big deal, but our house is probably only 75 feet from the creek.

It pissed cats and dogs last night and the 4-5 inches of snow that was on the ground was all gone. It is now 45 degrees. Big change from the -20 weather we had last week.

I got to work on releasing some of the flow. Fuck you Pineapple Express :

The POS bridge that the previous owners had there is the problem. The ice had began to rise over the last month and with the thaw the overflow began. It was coming over part of the bridge.

I've made some good progress though. This water that you can see here has dissipated

Heading back out to chop some more ice to relieve the pressure. I'll post up later with a TR

    Trust the fence.

But seriously - good luck, mang. One of my best friends has a creek in his back yard. He lives in a 200 y/o stone farmhouse, so there's not much damage the water can do besides soaking his stuff in the basement. Maybe move your valuables off the floor or into the attic for when the rains come back....

Is your house in the floodway? At 75 feet its probably in the floodplain. Here we have setback limits of 75 feet on a lot of our waterways for that very reason.
