Shave and save? Damon, who is as well known for his long locks and bushy beard as he is for his skills as a leadoff hitter and center fielder, will have to clean up his look before he joins the Yankees this week.

New York has a team policy that prohibits long hair or facial hair below the lip, a policy that no player in the Joe Torre era has tried to challenge. Damon told WBZ-TV in Boston on Tuesday night that he would do whatever the team wanted him to do when it came to his hair.

"Without a doubt, George Steinbrenner has a policy, and I'm going to stick to it," Damon said. "Our policy with the Yankees is to go out there and win, and we're going to try and bring another championship to them."

With Damon expected to shave his beard before the press conference later this week, Philips Norelco has extended an offer to the newest Yankee.

The company has offered a $15,000 donation to the charity of Damon's choice if he does the deed with an electric shave courtesy of Philips Norelco.

Philips Norelco's vice president of marketing Elwin de Valk said: "As Johnny makes the significant transformation from a Red Sox to a Yankee, Philips Norelco, long known for helping men put their best face forward, is offering up our entire lineup of men's grooming products, a barber and a $15,000 donation to the charity of his choice if Johnny embraces The Boss' clean shave policy.

"We're so excited Johnny is going to be wearing pinstripes," he added, "that Norelco is willing to brave the NYC Transit strike and meet him anytime, anywhere if he wants to take us up on our offer and get a Norelco shave to benefit his favorite charity."

I never thought of it that way.

that picture screams gay (or at least metrosexual) on so many levels.

    The haircut,
    the pose,
    the bracelet,
    the water bottle,
    the shoes,
    the glasses of wine,
    the haircut.

He was a gold glove SS, so first should not be a problem. Durability issues, and his power #s are not great, which is an area the Dodgers are lacking in. But, if he's healthy, its probably a decent fit.

Really would have been a better fit for the Yanks. He and Giambi could platoon 1st and DH. Yankees could get a CF, although I think Bubba Crosby would have worked out. I think Eric Byrnes is a free agent.

Nice, Irul...have to agree with most points...Although, I think bubba would have been a real stretch...and the Yanks would have only tried to hide his bat amoung the power in their lineup. I like Bubba's attitude and play...but I am not sure if he would be a starting outfielder on any team in the majors...due to his weak bat.

Here's another of Judas Damon, sans locks. Nice move: from Boston hero to just another Yankee fuck. I'm predicting a Giambi-like slump, booing, and benching, especially with Bernie signed on for another year.

we will see what shakes out, but We have a decent 1st in Choi (15 home runs, while batting .253 with 42 RBIs on a mediocre team,) who we just resigned.Nomah may move around the Infield.
gonna be an old new team with Furcal, Bill Mueller, Sandy Alomar Jr., Nomar and Lofton, plus Tomko on the hill.

How would he play in the IF other than 1st? They paid a ton for Furcal; Mueller is an everyday guy and Kent at 2d. Can't see Nomah as a "utility" player. Maybe LF or RF? Lofton can still play CF and they shipped Finley.

yeah, maybe they are gonna move Choi, it seems they have talented infield they could play around with the differnt pieces
Outfield seems set if/when Werth comes back w/ Drew in right ( if he actually plays a whole season) and LeDee.
plus this Andre Ethier kid better be out of AAA quick if we gave up Bradley for him.

you guys are hilarious. As soon as Damon hit his post All-Star swoon next year you would have been piling on about his $40 million contract. Hell, look at all the bitching about Schilling this year from the Bosox fans. The guy basically sacrificed his season this year in the 04 playoffs. Can you really blame Damon for wanting out of that fishbowl?

The Yanks and The Bo Sox will still loose in the first round of the playoffs. It's a given.

Amazing that Theo Epstein hasn't even been mentioned here. You know, the guy who said fuck it just a little while ago. And now has to be laughing hard as his former empire crumbles.

Meh, he took the money, can't really blame him too much for that. I'm sad to see him go, but there are other players out there, and I'm honestly not sure he was truly worth that much.
