    Utah Weather (mis)information

So what is up with the weather forecasters this year in Utah? Is there a giant conspiracy to underestimate every single tiny impuse of a storm that is coming through? Seems like an abnormally high rate of the weather folks saying "trace to nothing" and resulting in a foot plus. Which is better than the opposite scenario, but I think that's only happened once this season. Are the weather forecasters scared of predicting a decent storm and then fizzling out or is this just a super weird winter pattern? Just curious...any thoughts RB?

It is the new style of forecasting, designed to keep the snow snobs at home.

I am not going to complain, the 1" new reported at Beaver had me in calf high powder all day long yesterday.

I think that they were burned earl in the season. I saw a few days ago that there would not be any storms until after new years. Now they say you'll get a skiff but end up with alot more. They really do not have a clue

I'll preface this by saying I just returned to Utah tonight (Monday) after 5 days in cold and snowy Canton, Ohio () , so I'm really not sure what happened over the last week.

However, Particle, I have stopped making snow forecasts correct as a direct result of the recent ad you and Snowbird put together in your backcountry.com catalog. Call it revenge for taking a cheap shot a meteorologists...

It's the meteorologists method of crowd control.

It seems there may be a tidal effect on the weather.

Near a full moon (like this last one) or new moon, storms seem to be enhanced.

Near the first or last quarter moon, storms seem to be less organized & split.

Anyone else notice this or am I up in the night?

BWAHAHAH!!!! It was all Snowbird's fault! Sorry dude. Speaking of...I like the idea of it but it just gets blown clean so often that it doesn't seem to be doing the job. I wish they'd put up some plexiglass walls around that thing so it could at least be protected from side gusts...

and to clarify: I was not complaining about anything, I just seem to have noticed an unusual number of times this year when storms were wayyyy underestimated. And like I said, that is WAY better than the opposite (forecasting a big one that fizzles).

I don't think the Red Baron would take it personally anyway. I mean, you were just posting in exasperation about how poor the weather the forecasts have been from local weathermen on a forum where he's the only professional local weatherman. Nah. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have minded.

I agree that the Wasatch forecasts have been way off. The weekend and Monday were pleasant surprises. Very glad I "worked from home" on Monday to get some given the current balmy weather. I wish they were also wrong on the abnormal warmth this week..
