Buzz is exactly right, I've been injured more than I care to remember. Just stick to your guns, heal up and don't rush back into physical activity. your body will let you know when its time.

Its only significant if you can get Mrs. Buzz to say the same thing. Otherwise....meh

    Thumbs up

Ah yes. I have heard many times from my dad about the obligatorily learned "yes, dear." Seems to be an effective tactic for him. I think I'll try it...

    Thanks, Buzz.

I had same kind of accident 6 years ago. Too much speed in to rather big box. Missed the landing about 5 meters. I had also compression fracture and as result I'm now 2,5 cm shorter than before. It happend in the end of february and I was back on skis next december, If I remember correct. Also hit my head pretty hard, I don't remember nothing from that day, next two days are also blurry, but I guess that's because of good drugs Anyway I was fully recovered in about year and half. Keep training hard and do what your physiotherapist says, I didn't and I guess that's why it took longer to heal. Now days I sometimes have sometimes pain in my back, but nothing serious. And I have noticed that I forgot things pretty easy, although I have hit my head several times. After that I haven't jumped from boxes, it's just feels that it's too easy to land short or too long.

    Good luck for rehab

    FKNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So much for hittin' it from behind in a J-collar!!! The bitch comes off in a week! A WEEK!!!

And the even better news is that the doctor ordered a CT scan 2 weeks from now to evaluate my potential ability to "do crazy stuff like ski this season." Maxi may yet need to get a hold of some day passes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (My dad said "we'll talk when you come home in 3 weeks" )

More info after the CT scan on the 15th, but this is what I know now: there is still a slight degree of anterior displacement of C2 on extension and particularly flexion; otherwise it kinda looks like a normal neck--pretty close, anyway. I'm healing up well, and Dr. Brown (cool guy) was very pleased with what he saw. He and I are both very optimistic.

Gonna go light in the gym until after the CT, but after spring break, IT'S ON!!!

P.S. PT seems to be of minimal concern. My dad and Dr. Brown say that isometric strengthening is about all I'll need to do.
Sorry for all the !'s. I'm pretty stoked, though.

So you are hitting it from behind now?

I must have missed that development.

In any case, good luck and rock on.

    good deal Max.

I predict you'll make some turns at the mini. If not you'll just get fall-down drunk. Either way.

    You bet.

Gonna try not to think about this too much for the next 2 weeks. But if I can ski next month... the touring is ON. But I won't be able to ski next month. I won't be able to ski next month. I won't be able to ski next month. I won't be able...

I go home May 10 or something like that.

Good news Max; glad to hear you're healing up.

Stay a little patient - you have plenty of time to ski yet this year.

    Most recent info/low-down:

The doc said no skiing this winter but I'm now cleared to do pretty much anything else I feel like. So this means I'd definitely like to get up and dig some pits and develop my avy eyeballs some before the snow (or me) disappears.

All the stability is back; the fracture is completely stable. There is still some healing to be done. I will hopefully not develop any arthritis, and the doc says he's optomistic about that.

I'd still like to take a run or two on the 'Toons at the mini because I'll be even healthier, if not 100%, in a month anyway.

But I feel pretty damn good. I can look almost all the way to the left and most of the way to the right (driving still sucks without a spotter though, as I found out yesterday).

Thanks for all the posivibes, guys and gals. They helped.

    Leg's not broken

Well I did it again: I beatered hard skiing something blind (although I was skiing another maggot's line so it wasn't completely blind), and I paid the price. Tweaked my knee, twisted my ankle, and thought I might have a broken tibial plateau/fibular shaft.

Lucked out. Gonna let my dad check on the knee and ankle when I get home next weekend. Got an x-ray (which the death center wouldn't let me look at ), and here's the radiology report.

RIGHT TIB/FIB SERIES: There is a mild periosteal reaction seen associated with the mid to distal shaft of the right fibula along the lateral margin. No fracture lines are seen. The knee joint visualized is normal. The ankle joint is not included on the film. Soft tissues are unremarkable.

IMPRESSION: Mild periosteal thickening seen along the lateral margin of the mid to distal fibula. This could represent reactive changes to previous trauma [probably has]; however, there is no underlying cortical thickening to suggest stress fracture response. Clinical correlation is recommended with respect to location of pain. No additonal abnormalities.

So, guys who saw me beater, I thought I might give you an update. I'll be doing the bunny hop in a week.

This isn't intended as a flame, but are you letting yourself get into things that are way over your head? Pushing yourself is good, but if you're doing it to the point of stupidity then you should stop.

Am I more injury prone than the average dedicated skier? Am I getting hurt more than I should be?

Maybe learning to huck next season isn't such a good idea.
