Max...one question...
As you were launching the fateful air, did you yell "LEEEEEROOOY JEEEEENNNKKKINS"?
Heal up young maggot. And when your mom asks you about the terrain park, it won't hurt to lie just a little. Moms need re-assurance sometimes.

Back to work on a Monday and I see this crazy shit!
Max, glad to hear you came through all that OK. Sounds like you have agreat attitude. pHISH has the right idea - kick ass in school this spring - keep your stoke for next year and if you can't take spring 07 off at least plan it so you only have classes tue/thur. Summer in SA don't sound too bad, either.
Take care and enjoy the holidays.
Now, where's that thread asking about why old maggots don't hang in the park?
I'm glad you are doing much better Max.
"Can't vouch for him, though he seems normal via email."
"Super bummed about missing the last year of the first generation tram and about missing my projected 40 days this season, but that will just make my stoke levels that much higher next season."
Amazing attitude and perspective man. Get better.
Glad to hear you're doing alright,& are in good spirits!Don't short change on rehab when it starts!
Calmer than you dude
i got a pole in my pooper

If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.
ok, max. i got a plan for you.
next semester take as many credits as you think you can handle, work your ass off and get a 4.0.
so you can slack off next spring and still get decent grades.
sucks to see you go down before christmas your first year in the rockies.

Max glad to hear you got out of it alright with no apparent defecit.
Heal fast!!! You can still come up to the mtns if you want even if you cannot ski this season you have a place to stay amigo.

Jeez Max, that must have been a hell of an impact. Sucks, but glad to hear you'll be o.k.
I broke my C2 and C3 in 1991(December 11, 1991 to be exact) at Alta when I was 21 years old. I hit a (big)jump that I had been hitting for a week that had a steep hardpack landing and my skis found a hollow spot and broke through about 4 inches and sent me forward on to the top of my head on a transition. It was like diving into an empty pool. The impact was unreal and I remember it all. I had to wear a neck brace just like you. I learned a big lesson that day to leave myself room for error.
We're both lucky to have gotten a second chance. I was back that spring hitting 50 footers. You won't get that chance because of your other injuries of course but consider it a good lesson none the less.
It's gonna suck explaining to everyone what happened to you because of that
contraption you'll have to wear. But you'll get sympathy from the ladies and your lady.
dood....first I have heard of this. Really glad to hear that you are ok - sounds like you beat yourself up good. Heal fast, Max.
I went out there in search of experience. To taste, and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents.
That totally sucks ass dude. After I came back from my ACL this season (surgery last January) my attitude on the hill was completely different. For one, injury definitely gives you a reason to rehab hard. Also, your level of respect for the mountain goes up. After that day I realized that the mountain can, at any time, make you its bitch. You have to stay strong, ski hard, and stay focused. Overall I’m a stronger skier than I was before the injury. After my missed season I’ll never take a day on the hill for granted again.
Oh yeah milk it for all its worth. Sympathy can go a long way. Make sure your doctor keeps writing out those scripts.![]()
from one gimp to another- heal up, Max!
It's 5 o'clock somewhere.
Was finally able to compare the two-week CT scan to the original study. Found there was a little less than a millimeter of movement in the C2 fracture, but upon consultation with the spine doc, we found it's not enough to warrant a halo (read: WHEW!!!)
Instead we are going to step it up and get a SOMI brace (shoulder-occipital-mandibular-immobilization... I challenge the mags to come up with more interesting words for which this could be an abbreviation) which is just a hardcore version of what I have now. Prognosis hasn't changed (8-12 weeks in the collar then rehab), but I don't think I'll be skiing this summer, as (1) I don't have enough BC experience for Argentina, (2) I don't have the dough for a mogul camp in Whistler, (3) the madre is REALLY shaken up (as is the GF) hardly able to believe that I want to ski again, and I'm gonna be a good boy and put them at ease.
New shit: turns out the MRI revealed at least two (possibly three) compression fractures in my thoracic spine. No treatment necessary for it.
My back feels a tad better, and the MRI didn't reveal anything special about my lumbar spine. One of those transverse process fractures is just a bitch, apparently.
Nothing that points to anything but a full recovery, and I'm already entertaining plans of the boxes I want to slide and the "medium" tables I want to hit next season.
My mom says, "we don't want you leaving the ground," to which I reply honestly "mom, that's not going to happen." She says she wants to reconsider whether she's gonna let me go back to Boulder. For now I think I'll leave skiing out of the conversation until the females around these parts are more mentally prepared to discuss it.
That's the lowdown. I hear it's puking out there and that I picked the wrong year to break my neck, so you lucky bastards better take some pictures. GIT SUM, GIT SUM, YEEEEAAAAH!

Glad to hear your consult with the spine specialist went well. Definitely good to avoid the halo! I work in an orthopedic office in Longmont and have taken halos off people when they are healed, and their necks are so weak when the come out, it's crazy.
Keep up the positive attitude and you'll heal up just fine!
Go big, or go home!!
Nice work on staying out of the halo but those head holes are super chick magnetic.
Move along nothing to see here.
good news. Sounds like your in good spirits.
Just tell the rents you'll stay out the park for good, and that your new naxos leave no reason to get airborne.
Soon you will learn, there are just somethings left unsaid. Especially when dealing with your parent from Louisiana.![]()

Heal up. We'll ski some mellow stuff this summer.
Drive slow, homie.
I still have no clue what the fuck an "arterial artery" is. You mean "atrial artery?"
Get well soon.

Definitley the ol' remote control, tent pole, and spoon are MUST HAVE in the PAHK. Especially when there's pros about. You need that shit to GET SERIOUS. I am pretty sure Max is one of the few maggots who truly knows about hospital air...

sounds like a great idea...
i mean, maybe if I was her son her mentality would make sense, but not for you...
Ya seriously, dude. Her saying "don't ski, ESPECIALLY not in the terrain park" is not exactly effective in deterring me from taking air. And I'm going to ski no matter what (unless I'm paralyzed or deathly ill). But whatever, she'll come to her senses eventually.Originally Posted by MOHSHSIHd
Marshal, I just ordered a shovel with a snow saw, and I already have a beeper and an "anal probe" as my friends like to call it. I took the classroom portion of avy I, and summit and telekoptero showed me how to analyze the snowpack. I'm currently reading "Snow Sense" and "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain" and intend to take the field portion if it's offered after I'm healthy. I'd say I'll have a pretty good handle on this stuff by next winter, hopefully. (on that note, if you maggots want to get out and do some beacon drills or dig some pits or something that doesn't involve skiing but is educational, let me know. don't think I'll be capable of much until about february, but there's still snow until june, so I oughtta have a pretty big window of time in which I can learn some shit).
The bottom line is that my mom, although I love her to death, isn't extremely bright. She has said some things that have made me go..."eeeeh... what in the HELL did you just say???!!!" So that's where I get that from, I guess.
And sorry if my small attention span confused you guys. It's my VERTEBRAL artery. Taking plavix and aspirin for that...
Z, dude, I don't think I'll be around for the summer unless I score a place to stay for the year and a sweet job. But I do appreciate the offer.

Max, very glad you are ok.
I do want to give you a little advice as I have heard the same words from my mom, after multiple different injuries, "are you really thinking about skiing/boarding again?".
Just say yes, it is what you love to do and then shut up quick. No talk about jumping, parks or anything other than, "I love to ski, I look forward to skiing powder again".
If she asks you to stay grounded, say the obligitory "yes mom". This may eventually turn to "yes dear" if you find the right woman and live happily ever after (I did and that is what I say, and now do as I prefer to not hurt and I simply am not good enough ON snow)
But then you do what you want, within reason so you don't ever have to go thru something like this again.
Good luck and just know that your mom is like most moms and is worried about you. You can be honest and keep her in the dark at the same time. Later she will thank you for this.
Just imagine you getting a call that your son has broken his neck while skiing. Put yourself in her shoes and try to ease her anxiety now so when you do get back to it she may be a bit more supportive (maybe).
Good luck Max!
