Morning snow report showed Rose on wind hold so I headed to the Heave. 6" is plenty if it's steep enough to keep you in your own sluff. ja_surf and I got it done for several laps in Killebrew before the wind kicked up and they closed Dipper. It was full-on whiteout when I left, and it's still snowing down here in SLT.

Rose report claims the whole mountain opened today, which I find hard to believe given the winds down here. Can anyone confirm?

    ROSE

I called several times and the 11 am and noon phone reports as well as the website at 2:30pm had all lifts runnning and chutes open.

I must be a freakin' jinx for Rose. I'm going tomorrow and I apologize in advance.

Good storm-day at KW today.....hellish winds on the summit and found some firm/glaciated snow on steeper wind exposed areas. Hop broke a tele binding, AKA broke something, Kush rockin, rockstar new Nordicas for da' Blower. Ended up skiing most of the day with Arty hitting Palisades, past Rabbits, etc. Forgot to charge the camera battery so no pics and by the end of the day, we were barely hitting anything underneath. Arty and I took a superstar last run near the Palisades/OB border...not a track in site. Picked up Bo (74 year old pizza maker from Timber Creek) drove him to Woodfords, and then was driving by brail for the next hour....Luther pass should have been named Lucifer Pass today.

    Tomorrow will be OK.

Pfffft. That run was just ok. I mean, I only got a handful of faceshots, there weren't any tracks to follow, and the snow was way too light.

Holiday weekend. Anyone planning debauchery tonight, or is everyone tucking themselves in early?

Did a fun mellow tour up Pole Creek today (just N or squaw on 89). Skinned up for a bit over two hours and found some great snow up high. There is definately a nasty layer underneath, and we set off one decent point release (but were skiing low angle stuff, so not too scetchy.

Should be light tomorrow at Squaw....hopefully everything does slide.

Which they were. But that didn't mean that the snow wasn't schweeeet, once enough of it was down that you avoided the whole dust-on-crust tease. It was pretty fucking windy, though. But the good news was that one of my five-year-olds -- the more skittish about wind, after having to be snowmobiled off Squaw last year in a windstorm -- got over his fear and had a great run, to much praise from his coach.

After leaving my boots at the house (doh!) and having to turn around, I eventually got in three or four runs on Roundhouse and an equal number on Yellow. I hooked up with StormDay for my last run down Deer Park.

It was positively nuking when we left at 2pm. Alpine was claiming 10.5-14" fresh as of 4pm, which seems to jibe with the NWS and my experience. Tomorrow should be money, aside from the crowds -- I plan to get the kids with their teams and go directly to Sherwood, do not pass go. Subject to change, natch.

You should have stayed. It kept getting better as the day went on. The stuff we were skiing in Deer Park had knee deep pockets by 1pm. By 2pm, it was pretty easy to find knee deep pockets good for 2-3 turns (and more over the head face shots ). Stuff out below sisters & beaver was pretty nice. Got lazy and spent the last 1.5 hr working over the Face and Waterfall.

FYI - On Alpine’s 4pm snow report: It was very windy. Wind loaded places are much deeper than 14” and the windward sides have little (1-3”) to no snow.

Not a bad day. Got 1st chair w/ OHC and was skiing off when they stuck the “Lift Closed” sign in the snow at Roundhouse. Drive home was not bad either.

I’ll be at Alpine tomorrow. On black Sanouks.

OHC: My non-maggot buddy just picked a pair of Mantras for tomorrow.

Next year I have one in the program. But if you can help me track down a babysitter (So, me and mrs can actually ski together) and your boot is around 326mm, I have a few pairs of skis that I would let you play with. (like the ones in the picture.)

The babysitter we used at AM the last couple of years has moved.

    Epic day on the horizon.

Alpine is reporting a storm total of 25-31".

NWS' non-marketing-driven remote data concurs -- 20" gain in snow depth at base in the past 24 hours, an increase of roughly 45%.

Cold, yes. A little windy at the top, yes. But we were having trouble making snowballs yesterday afternoon in TD because the snow was so light.

    See y'all on the slopes.

Kirkwood was fun yesterday....me & the wife rocked out with Jim S, girlfriend and son for a while then it was just me and the wife as the storm really got going....kept lapping it out to Palisades and back....then having the force came in quite handy since my eyeballs didn't do shit on the drive home!!

Rose was apparently quite good late yesterday and they're reporting 10-14" overnight of light cold fluff...should be off the charts EVERYWHERE today....get out there, bundle up and enjoy it mags!!

Mt Rose was sick on Saturday

What's up with all the Mt Rose folk traveling to the Woody. Saturday the best day of the season at Rose. Monitered the website until around 1100 AM when all chairs went green. On the hill by Noon. It was blowin' and snowin', 4-6" by Noon, 6-10 by 4:PM. Nobody there, the Slide parking lot had less than 50 cars all afternoon .

Untracked for 4 hours, a litttle firm underneath at the start but by mid afternoon there was little if any scraping. Detonater at 3:30 was untracked. Chaos, Nightmare, Captivator, never saw a soul-Sloughs everywhere-Probably a top 5 day for the past 3-5 seasons because NO ONE was there . Every Chute run the we took was not only untracked but it looked as though we were the only ones to have gone down. The main runs were tracked but the off-chutes were $$$$. Thanks for going to KW!! Last 1/2 hour in Trees was bottomless.

Took an hour and 45 minutes to travel was should have been 40 minutes to get home. Many cars, most with CA plates spun out on Mt Rose highway. Slow down flatlanders or even better stay on the West slope. The last 5 mile stretch of 4 lane Mt Rose Hwy before 395 was covered in snow, I couldn't believe how many CA plates or new NV residents were blasting by at 40-50 MPH. Do they ever learn?

Sitting out this morning because the masses will have the Mt tracked out by 10:AM. I'll be there by noon though to enjoy the packed pow.
