Tuesday Rose is open !

Both sides have lifts but East Bowl Road is closed.

As of 9AM, Rose is open... for the Lakeview chair. Snow report is howling wind.

Tomorrow... ah.... I feel a sick day coming on....

Late post, but hey.

Skiied yesterday morning at Alpine with the kids. Two five-year-olds losing skis in the deep simultaneously does not a fun morning make. But after temper tantrums (by them and me -- I think I set a world record for number of repetitions of the phrase "you can't put your boot down on the snow after I've scraped it!") subsided, we got going and a relatively blissful morning was had. (Well, aside from the guy who smashed into my eight-year-old daughter, tried to blame her for behaving unpredictably, then backed off and apologized when I told him point-blank that the overtaking skier always lacks the right of way and admitted he was looking at a friend.)

We had to head out for home early, but I managed to squeeze in one solo, kid-less, one-rest run -- Wolverine to Face to Blue. Top was visibility-compromised, but once I could see the surface, I was loving it. Wet snow was a lot of work, and I was winded and tired at the end (and obviously, out of shape before and after), but man, it was worth it.

Looking forward to next weekend, a daddy-daughter trip.

Alpine - how'd the Bros treat you?

The Bros continued to rock. Any limitations were due to my choice of wax two days prior. I had put on a -6c to 0c wax, but in retrospect, a 0c+ wax would've made more sense. So they were a little stickier than I'd have hoped on the wet snow, but they still floated beautifully.

The only ski-specific issue I had during the day was that when I was herringboning uphill to retrieve the aforementioned five-year-olds' skis, I kept catching the twin tip tails. I just need to get used to the length of the twin tips in the back.

This AM at Kirkwood was the SHIT. I don't think I ever used the word bottomless to describe Kirkwood snow, but there were many many runs that that's exactly what I was thinking.

Only skied till Noon and then I had to hightail it back home to catch up on work (heh...and TGR apparently too eh?), but Jesus.....

Yesterday's storm skiing was the powder day....and today was the huck day. Just point if off anything and feel the pillow love. And felt great to finally hit a decent sized huck after knee surgery last year (does a barrel roll after a stomp count? )

Super fun crew to ski with today: clack, lph, punani, hop, & AKA. Plake was up there today and Garbiel was killing it everywhere as usual too.

Heart Chute's cherry got popped today and apparently the second guy into the gut caused the entire middle portion to fracture sending a plume of snow (and the dude) spitting out the funnel...dude was fine though and ended up buried to his waist. He definitely got the scare of the day though.

As of Noon, they still hadn't opened Eagle Bowl, Norm's, or anything on the backside. They were bombing like crazy though...if it didn't open today.....tomorrow will be goooooood.....go get some!!!

I've been pretty sad all day about the fact that I wasn't able to make it up, but now it almost looks like tomorrow could be just as good if they didn't open up all those parts you mentioned Tyrone. I think I'm calling in sick for tomorrow right now.

Yeah, it would totally be worth it. Wait for the rest of the crew to get back and report in to see if it opened or not. Even if it did, it would have been sometime after 12:30 I'm guessing, and by that time, a lot of people were already leaving (chair 10 & chair 6 were BOTH having power problems), so it would still be good.

Sounds like my +++++++energy+++++++ worked and you guys left some for me tomorrow. Kirkwood's web site has shown 3 and 4 on hold all day, and the phone says they'll be open tomorrow... =)

Today was epic, and I was at Northstar, yes that is right, Flatstar was actually amazing, it was some of the best tree/glade activity I have experienced for quite a while. Face shots were everywhere and it stayed light and fluffy all day.

rolled into alpine at 8:15am, was in line for third chair on summit. saw grant (3pin) in line, one chair behind me. first chair up and we both head to d chutes...can you say wind buff? winds whipping up top blowing snow straight up the chutes, untouched and waiting to be had, drop in and ski by brail for first few turns, as wind is creating a white out, big buttery turnss on the Spats, throwing massive contrails, sooo schweet...repeat twice. then peel out to palisades and lower yellow, cold smoke turns. keyhole traverse pops, up and over to the saddle, whoa, winds almost blow me off the traverse, billowing massive snow plumes over the ridges, it was an awesome site, head to high yellow - BOOYA - best run of the season, a few big turns and down to Scott - but its on wind hold - so keep going back to Summit all day.

hit Wolverine, Our Father ($$), Beaver, Palisades....by 1:45 I was cooked, vis was geting worse, winds picking up even more and it started to snow again

Tmrw should be good: Scott was closed when I left and probably did not open today (anyone?). Upper Beaver and Estelle also off limits today. And a rumor is floating that they may pop the backside for the first time this season tomorrow....see ya'll same place same time then.

I'm super happy others got to experience Kirkwood in Fat Thursday like conditions. It'll be one of those days you'll remember forever. And it couldn't have happened to a better person than the one who posted the above report.

Glad we finally met in the line this morning. Pulled up to make sure my gf and friend from back East saw where I was dropping, and then dropped right behind you. It was a little, ahem, interesting with those first couple turns and no vis, but man that was a sweet run. I think you saw how much I like my new Thrashers... kinda gave up turning after the first few. BTW, right after turning into Three Sisters, I let loose a small slab behind me, just past where you dropped in, but that broke above me, rather than from my track... little sketchy.

Skied a couple laps on Lower Beav and a couple small drops/chutes through rocks above Kangaroo that were pretty sweet, before having to run back to Truckee for work. I'd love to go tomorrow, but the last deadline's getting close, so not sure I'll be able to make it.

No shit I rarely lap Maggies and I hit it 5 times yesterday doing big loops waiting for Motts to open.

and I thought I was being excessive with 3 laps via 9 chairlift rides....

Powderhouse this morning: "Better be steep to flow through the deep". And the steep sections were ridiculous - like free falling down the fall line with a parachute being pulled at every turn. And probably one of the most beautiful sunrises ever.

Anyone got a first hand on Mott or Killibrew?
