Today, Tues, Rose was closed so I went back to Squaw.

Dumping major and I focused on skiing the trees of Chute 75 and Moseley's (OK.... West Face) run at KT-22 because the light was so flat. Upper 2/3rds had good snow; bottom 1/3 was heavy Sierra cement.

Much of the upper mountain good stuff was not open while I was there. Headwall or Cornice II were runningfor a bit--I forget which--but Siberia, Mainline, and Granite were closed. One run on Gold Coast and back to KT-22 for a last run.

um, wow. I just read the past 8 pages or so and, damn. That is some crazy weather. Glad the Sierra Cement came and turned things around for ya.

now I'll wait for the sure to come 666 Kwood TR. Given all the craziness of the weather/weekend, it should be a good one!

holy. crap.

today was sooooooooooooo good. Kirkwood was bottomless. Snow was heavy, but as Huck said, just creamy goodness all around. And totally agreed - you would never guess that we just endured the rainstorm from hell.

Lots of cool kids to do laps with - shoe, lph, arty, AKA, slim, skier666, mrs. 666 and mrs. Slim (who I got to rip around the hill with and we had a blast - hucking little rocks and just blasting around).

Today was simply fanfreakingtastic.

And I have to say, I'm stoked for the locals who've endured a crappy season start, who will now get to enjoy some of the best snow in a while during a post holiday slow week. You guys deserve it!!

You left too early. The snow just kept getting lighter and more plentiful as the day went on. AKA said it well, "Deepest day at the Wood in two years (since Big Thursday)." All afternoon we were skiing anywhere from waist deep to nipple deep pow. And it was super fluffy goodness. Face shots galore. I'm so friggen happy right now I could die.

WHAT A DAY!!!!

Short TR in Bullet form

-Deepest Day at Kirkwood I have had since Big Thurs 2 years ago, yup, deeper than any day I had at the wood last year.

-The morning was mostly incredibly fast, buttery, stable, dense dry snow. Essentially no slide activity. Never felt bottom, but skied up on top.

-At Noon Shoe, Lou and I headed out to Pali by the High T. Found a beautiful pitch of untracked knee deep blower. The temp had started to drop and it was nuking!!!

-The Afternoon, ah yes, I will always remember this afternoon. The mountain clears out as people decide to head back to the bay, dry off, get off the mountain as the beginnings of what is looking like a blizzard rolls in. I hook up with AKA and Arty, whom I had only caught glimpses of up till this point. We ski the first gully in Pali, all the tracks are filled in, and we are now skiing knee to mid thigh.

-We venture out to outer Pali via the low T. It is mindblowingly deep, light snow. This isn't all new snow, but the cold snow that is falling is sucking the moisture out. We are now skiing consistently WAIST deep snow. Arty claims he hits a chest deep pocket (he might be exagerating. I don't know. The traverse out of Pali at the base is gone, the lower angle stuff just above, too deep to ski, it is a straightline just to get back to chair 7. We repeat.

-As much fun as I am having, I am cold and wet and bail. Sit on Carson Pass for a couple hours waiting for it to open to get home.

-Tomorrow we should have a whole new mountain to ski. With the new snow and the backside opening up, the potential is off the charts for a stellar day. Tomorrow, if I can make my fingers function I will take pics and video.

Good times were had at Sugar Bowl today!

Heavy, but buttery and fast, as previously described by many others. I didn't hit any rocks or anything, except for a couple on Disney Nose, which was admittedly sketchy on Sunday.

Fresh tracks abounded. The gullies just under the Mt. Lincoln chair filled in beautifully, making for the first decent steep skiing of the season for me. It felt wonderful to get my adrenaline going!

Ditto. The drive home was painfully slow from Sugar Bowl. When I passed the Donner Summit area at about 3:00 or so, it was absolutely puking big, fat fluffy flakes that tell me the tempurature had dropped significantly. It was snowing down to at least the 5000 foot level. I wish I could head back up tomorrow... it'll be money.

Well.......

Yesterday, after some SuperG turns off of Chair 6, then a High Traverse hike off of Chair 1 (Yes, I said Chair 1) with a fellow extreme skier Lou, KW was pretty much shut due to the satanic winds. So Pimpin Frog, Mrs 666 and I decide to roll to Heavenly to get up to Canyon, ski the trees off of Ridge, poach the bump course off of Waterfall, ski some crusted pow in the PowderBowl Woods, and then a super extreme run down Advanced Roundabout to some SuperG slush turns on World Cup. The snow up on Canyon was stellar, the snow on Waterfall and below was crusted.

Now on to Monday....Mrs. 666 and I arrive into KW at 8:35 am, with Slim and Mrs. Slim close behind:



We got 20th chair or so on Chair 6, so I was able to take a few pics of the humans riding the condensed 2 feet of buffed pow. A tele human on Look Out.



The snow early on was not super deep, felt like over a foot or so, but not hitting stuff underneath. As Alka stated earlier, it was remarkable that it covered most of the ice on the lower mountain. However, as I rolled into Dan's cliffs (Oops EP), it was basically powder over blue ice, which throw me into "just point it" mode.

Some medium hucks on Oops were had, but the main rocky face was firm as well....it was mainly a day to bring out your powderboards and let them rip. This one is for Squirrel:



Everyone was there, but nobody skied together. The weather made it impossible to take pics....condensation on the lens, battery issues, and just too much fun to whip out the camera.

Today it snowed....when I mean snowed, the HEAVENS OPENED UP AND LEASHED UPON US MEAGER HUMANS!



At this point, we took a couple laps past Rabbits, then went to the Wall Chair, were Lph and us were shut down right as we were about to sit on the lift. I contemplated waiting 5 minutes, Lph gave me 10 seconds, so the decision was to take multiple laps in the Palisades. As Arty stated, each run got better and better, but Mrs. 666 has an important meeting tomorrow, so its time to leave at around 1 pm.

The spur is closed, so its Hwy 50 time! YESSSSSSSS.

It snowed all the way to Pollock Pines, down to about 2900 ft or so, and the sunset made me cry knowing of the madness which we be known as "Tomorrow."

6 hours later.....in my garage in SF. However, after seeing those pics of Mammoth, I feel lucky to be home. I guess

Just got home about an hour ago after my FIVE HOUR drive home from Kirkwood....

....Mr Chupacabra calls me at 6:30 this morning to inform me that Rose is closed today due to a power outage....so we high tailed it to the wood for some EPIC snow...to reiterate all the others - whatta day....I'd say they got close to 2 feet just during the day....much fun, much quad burn (and lots of squinting uphill through the pukage waiting for El Chupie's yellow coat to come down )....I can't seem to go to bed because I'm enoying the afterglow so much (and a bit wired from the drive)!!

TOMORROW will be THE day.....if Rose opens it should be about as good as it gets.....oh I hope I can sneak out of work for a few hours....

After all the rain and high snow levels we've had...that sure was a sight for sore eyes.

Partly cloudy in the foothills this am, same looking towards the Sierra. Cold as well. Today should be one to remember.

We might need a support group for those that wont be able to participate.
