I saw a total of 13 people yesterday on the mtn not including the 2 others in my group, it was very serene.

I'll take flat tree runs over sitting in the car or not skiing any day.

Ps. we did 4 laps in the flat tress and only crossed a couple tracks all day. It was rad. How were your turns? Oh wait…you sat in your car for 1.5 hours and then were turned away from the resort.

I am putting my bets with Freshies.....my new years eve plans just got a bit more mellow. I want to get those first 3 hours of empty mountain powder skiing.

I am hoping for a New Years Day 2004 replay.....anyone, anyone? I got to Squaw at 8, rode KT for 6 laps until they closed it, then rode Red Dog until they closed it, then rode Far East until 4. Friggin DEEP. The road to TC closed that day due to avalaches at River Ranch too.

So, I went to Alpine today hoping to beat the rising snow level. At 9am, it was raining at the top of Alpine Bowl Chair. Snow was heavy, but soft enough to make fun turns. (The LPs slayed the heavy snow with ease.)

Summit opened between 10am -10:30am. We got some friends to watch the kids. So, Mrs. Stormday and I skied a few Summit laps together. The lift rides were pretty nasty. It was stinging frozen granular about half way up Summit. The reward was untracked snow in sun spot with ok visibility.

The temp did seem to be dropping while we were skiing.

By noon, it was switching between snow and rain at the bottom of Alpine. I was thinking about heading back out, when Mrs informed me that it was time to get the kids home. I had to brush some super wet snow off the car.

It was definitely a day that having the right gear made all the difference. Hopefully, everything will dry out for tomorrow and it will continue to snow at Alpine’s base.

I just know I will be leaving the Bay Area at about 4am sunday morning for some skiing at Kirkwood. Brought up Ole for the day yesterday, left the house at 5:30, got to Kirkwood at 8:45 or so, and the line was basically out to the highway. There was plenty of TC parking spots and we spent the day lappin 7 (RAD), and I got Ole introduced to poles, tree skiing and tabletops. Pics to follow.

Skied Kirkwood this morning....

Got there at 8:15 am in the RAIN....to make sure I could park the car and GET FIRST TRACKS!

Rolled Chair 5 for the first run while waiting for 6 to open. Raining on the top of 5, but milky fast snow back to 6.

6 opened and rolled some fast slushish-pow down Zachs, Sentinel, Oops, etc. Basically, the top half had new snow and buttery smooth, but then at mid-mountain it turned to pretty much slush.

Went over to 10, it was sort of snowing, more like freezing rain, windy as fuck at the top, and hit the ridge down to waterfall and it was $$$$$ smooth....so we did it again.....and then it was 12:00 pm.....TIME TO LEAVE THE RAINFOREST MASSIVE!

It was 34 F at the base when we left, almost mid 40's in South Lake....

Getting some skis mounted as we speak....

Tomorrow is going to be DEEP, as in TAHOE DEEP, as in LAKE TAHOE DEEP, as in the ACTUAL LAKE, as in WATER DEEP, because its BARELY SNOWING at 10,000 feet!

got into a pretty good fight with gf earlier and Im pretty sure it all started because Im in such a miserable goddamned mood from this clear ass snow we're getting.

nah. Id would've still been pissed that I was forced to ski powderhouse rather than what I really wanted to ski, consolation prizes are the biggest kicks to the nuts.
