    BOO-FUCKING-YAAAAAAA!

Yesterday was good. Wind effected, but fast and smooth up top, heavy down low. Saw irul and stormday, made some turns with them, then got all jacked up when I saw that Chute that Seldom Slides was fresh, and had to have it, lost the boys in my frenzy on that one. Sessioned that a few more times, then home.

Today was sublime: 6" or so of new snow overnight that was cold smoke and fun to ski, vis was bad, so we skied D7 several times where it was $ then down into Wolverine: ran laps on that all morning, sooo schmoove. Then hit Alpine Bowl and Scott to finish the day and get out before all the gapers clog 89.

Storms stacked up in the Pacific: gonna dump Wed and Fri/Sat and again on Mon. I don't strt the new gig until 1/10, so am session'ing the fresh for the nex 2 weeks. Bring it Ullr!

Hope to see ya'll out on the hill this week. Shoot me an email if anyone will be at Alpine and we will ride. Peace.

Kahunas or Spatulas? Since you and I have the same skis, and I haven't gotten to try my Spatulas yet ( ), I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the two -- likes, dislikes, differences, etc.

The Mothership of KT finally opened at Squaw today. Caught first chair of the year for the fourth year in a row somehow (certainly an element of luck involved), and West Face did not disappoint--just hauling ass AK-style turns on my favorite snow on earth: fast, supportive, predictable dense buff. It felt so good to get in one really, really good run before the rains return and ruin it all...

For those curious, only West Face, Chute 75 and the Saddle/Enchanted Forest were open, and things got hammered quickly. It was probably a single day window, considering there were already running ditches and creeks that required navigating. The lowest snow I've ever seen KT open in, for sure. Now it's raining--probably to the top--and the weather shows that continuing through tomorrow, so KT's likely done until a cooperative storm finally arrives. The rest of the mountain was closed (for as long as I stayed) due to high winds. The windbuff up there would be magical, but it'll probably be destroyed tonight and tomorrow.

hey chup, my Spats have yet to feel the carress of snow - been waiting for things to fill in a little more down low at Alpine before I bust 'em out. Especially since the bottom part funnels you into an icy ribbon of death w/gapers flailing all around, its frightening enough as is with out having to deal with that on Spats for the first time

If this storm tmrw pans out, I think their maiden voyage shall be Thur morning.

I had both Spatulas and Kahunas on the roof this morning, ready to go to Kirkwood... and Mrs. C. said "no" based on the 200 MPH ridgetop wind gusts. So I'm at work.

    Thursday at KW for sure.

Is it really luck that you get to KT at 7AM every storm day?

From what I have seen, you earn that first chair.

AT THE TOP???? Holy shit, that sucks. At least, when the powder DOES come, we don't have to worry about losing all these great early season features at the wood.

Spent the morning at Alpine. Met Freshies on the line for Summit after the Bros caught his eye. (Rob: Sorry if I was at all rude; my wife does not yet know about my TGR addiction, so I kind of had to explain why I knew who you were, and then what Spats were.) Did a couple of runs off Summit, then headed to Scott for several runs, including a couple of wonderful shots down Chute That Rarely Slides.

    Then the rain hit. .

snowing at mt. rose. it always snows at mt. rose, but those damn 100 mph gusts are brutal at the top. higher elev = happy mt. rose locals. storms supposed to be getting colder throughout the week. the american and sac rivers are WAY up, tons of water being released in anticipation of big upcoming storms.

but all you in the bay area...please get 4WD...watching those poor chain monkeys while you sit in your BMWs is getting hard to take.

Damn, I must have been blind this morning. I got 2nd chair on Summit and didn't see Freshies. I headed over to Scott after a couple summit laps, but it was not open yet. Seldom had been good on Monday afternoon, so I knew it would be nice.

Got back over there around 12:15, snow was still good especially in the trees. But, it had just started to rain so I called it a day.

I'm not too hopeful for tomorrow, but I will definitely be at Alpine on Thursday.

I'll be there. Let me know if you want to meet up; it appears my intrepid host will be stuck in the office on New Year's Day, so if people want to hook up I'd be down.

All right! Before Friday we should figure out a meeting place or something for Sat or Sunday.

I'll bring my 189 SV and something else to deal with the potential bulletproof ice: Explosiv or Legend Pro. Maybe even the 189 Maden's to be a pig if it snows instead of rains!

goddamn shame about this rain again. powderhouse was still $$$ this am and to top it off, not a single snowshoer or postholer has fucked up the track we punched so it is/was still in great shape. keep speading the gospel of the split bcr and keep helping to save our skintracks . while water/powderhouse may be the 7-11 of tahoe backcountry it just flatout delivers everytime. was going back manana for more but now...........???????

if this shit keeps up a midwinter trip to shastafari may be in order.

    Damn, this really really sucks.

Even Snowforecast.com, ridiculously optimistic website IMHO, is now saying that for Kirkwood, the snow level won't fall until wednsday, though it will snow alot during the day.

The next precip is gonna start as rain friday and then snow on saturday.

    WTF????

Bell to bell at KW today with the family crew from Pittsburgh. Nothing like taking easterners to the mountain and hearing how conditions were better last week at 7 Springs

Light snow in the morning gave way to nuking rain to the summit in the afternoon.

Last year on this day I arrived in SLT expecting to be in town for three days, and ended up staying for a three week long powder bonanza. Today I left SLT after a whopping 26 hours in town. Whee.
