2-3 feet overnight! Damn...I love the K effect. The best part is that there's only 20-25 people in line at 6 right now. It's like you bastards are going to have it all to yourselves. Git sum.

Edit: Ooops. Sorry guys. It would appear there's a bit more than 25 people in line now. I still hate you though. Especially Punani since he called to gloat.

snowed all day at squaw today. they were reporting 10 inches but there was some serious loading and drifting. headwall spun from about 11:30 ro 3. it was really really good. fast buttery skiing. not even that heavy. c2 bowl was holding some really good lines and smooth run outs, despite the wind and partial white out from time to time.

in the morning they were bombing the shit out of granite and spinning the chair, but it seems they never got it open. it will be really good up there tomarrow.

i needed today, i feel like a new basom.

kirkwood was fun, but a bit of a disappointment. really expected blower, got 18-24 of dense wind affected snow, which was ok, but there were slides everywhere, in the trees, under every cliff band, from every ridge. It was hard to link 4-5 turns without hitting either avy debris or hard pack ice in the avy beds.

never seen so much slide activity at the wood. there was absolutely no bond between the base and the new snow. I was thinking with the warm temps yesterday the base would soften up and the storm would blow in warm and you would get wet on wet, but it didn't happen.

Oh, and BTW, there was no where near 3 feet. 18" was about average with some gullies containing 2 feet. anyone who says differently is full of it.

the wood came thru today. got the second chair on 6. some lines were more wind-affected than others. some NE lines had accumulation nearly as deep as my pole--no lie; some gullies that are usually super-deep were barely 6 inches on top of crust.

Good day at Alpine. Ran into Stormday right off; we waited about 45 min for Roundhouse to open and then hit about 18" of heavy fresh snow. I skied like a Texan, but started to figure it out.

Ran into Freshies on his Kahunas and headed to Scotts. One run to never slides and then we lost Freshies...or more accurately, we saw him throwing big ass GS turns toward who knows where. Stormday hung back w/ my gaper ass and we proceeded to hit the woods skiers left of the chair ramp.
Stormday went to do parent duty and I stayed there for a few more runs and then saw Stormday and Onehotchili and Mrs. Chili at the lodge. Apple and water then up to Summit and hit the D's for several laps. Whiteout started about 2 and me and my gimpy knee headed down. Good day. Might see you guys tomorrow.

As I'm tying this this my wife asked me what my board name is. I told her and she said its disgusting and that I'm an asshole. Oh well.

Today was a great day for the season opener! Powderhouse did not disappoint and served up lots of sheltered powder in the trees.

Special thanks to gimpy and friend for punching in the skintrack.

    12/26 Mt Rose

I got there at 8:30am and had first tracks all over the East Bowl: it was nice sweet light powder. Not Sierra Cement at all. And empty with virtually no lift line. I took one run on the Rose side at about 10am and it as not as nice as the East Bowl.

Chutes opened at noon and I hit El Cap which was very hard with thin coverage; that gate was soon closed and a wise move by the ski patro: I thought I was on landscaping duty in there with boulders, baby trees and stumps, blocks of ice the size of child. Beehive, Hornet's Nest, and Nightmare gates were very nice: a bit crusty up top but after a few turns it was powder.

Yeah...I was a bit disappointed in the snow...I was pissed that we huffed it all the way to Kirkwood and skipped the sunny Chutes opening day at Rose....until they opened up the backside that is....the snow back there was fantastic and the wife had her best "powder" experience to date.....so proud of the bitch....she finally "got it" and was really hauling ass!!

That area going right off chair ten heading over toward the backside was pretty good too....heaven forbid I look at a trail map and figure out what stuff is called ...

Looks like I'll be playing hooky after this next storm on Thursday...not sure if I'll go to Rose or the Wood though....may have to get my inaugural Chutes fix !!

If you are in shape it’s an hour hike, if you’re fat and out of shape like me count on 1.5hrs.
