Just went out and measured the snow on the handle rail. 3" a 7:45. It has been snowing for 4 hours.

Currently there is no wind outside. That is a bit unusually for TD ski hill condos (6700'). We usually get hammered by the wind during a storm. But there has been no significant wind since about 5pm. With no wind, it very peaceful outside in the falling snow.

Alpine Pass and kids in Alpine's Kids' Area.

Plus with Squaw i would worry about the crowd chewing up the open terrain about twice as fast. And I will not have to worry about hitting a tree because I’m gawking at someone skiing pontoons.

Christmas was spent at Sierra. No crowds. Nice soft conditions with winds increasing through the day. Grandview closed after 2:00 PM, while west bowl stayed sheltered. Snow moved in at 3:30 at the lowest elevations. Higher elevations should do better, but Monday looks like a significant wind event along with any snow that might grace us.

powderhouse at dawn. i'll be wearing some pants and a jacket and i'll most likely have ski boots on. good chance i'll have some skiis too. noaa sensors show 8" already at alpine base (6,900') and it doesn't even look like the green blob has totally pushed over the crest yet.

though it probably won't even make it over and we'll all be fucked anyway.

Better still, NOAA -- without any economic incentive to distort -- is reporting 15" at Alpine Base as of 5am.

    Sheeeee-it!

DOT's webcams show good snow depth but traffic moving at the Truckee scales. Kingvale doesn't have good lighting like the Truckee scales, but I just watched them plow both lanes both ways.

Accuweather's hour-by-hour forecast for Truckee is predicting precipitation through noon, then clouds with a little action. Tuesday night into Wednesday, more precipitation rolls in, along with winds.

This afternoon and tomorrow should be fantabulous. My kids will whine about Wednesday, but it'll be worth it.

I like this statement.....Here is my JONG cut and paste from the special weather statement:

ADDITIONAL PACIFIC STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA ON DECEMBER 30TH...AND JANUARY 2ND. LONG RANGE MODELS INDICATE THIS MOIST AND FAST MOVING PATTERN MAY NOT BREAK UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY. EACH OF THESE STORMS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS AND STRONG WINDS.
