Silveretta Pure?? (AT set-up)

Anyone have any info on these? Actual product testing?


Williston, Vermont (Ski Press)-Garmont North America will be the North American distributor of Silvretta free-ride and ski mountaineering bindings starting January 2004. Silvretta will introduce the “Pure,” the company’s new alpine touring binding in 2004.

According to John Schweizer, president of Garmont North America, “Silvretta was looking for a strong partner to launch Silvretta’s “Pure” binding technology into the North America market. At the same time, we were looking for the ‘Next Generation’ of technical bindings to compliment our free-ride ski mountaineering boots.”

Garmont North America has sales and distribution centers in Williston, Vermont and Cowansville, Quebec. Schweizer added “All bindings including the new “Pure” plus service parts will be in stock by January 1. Haven't skied them myself, but seen a few around on the hill. The impression here is they are a good lightweight touring binding and a good alternative to the dynafit system, but not a freeride binding. They are more efecient to walk in than freeride/diamirs but only release in the heal like other silvrettas, they claim twisting release by having an afd plate under the toe and a din setting on the forward presure....the toe does not release and is way to small and feeble to hold strongly (if you drop the demo model in the shop it dosen't survive the impact with the floor....ops)

Thanks, tom. That's about what I wanted to know, the floor test is a definite black-eye. Liked the design compared to their other bindings. It would be nice if they would change their toe to a more friendly release.

Twin tubes instead of sinle bar gives a little more edge feel till the time toe piece explodes...the toe is actualy a hinged bit of forged aluminum with a tiny bit of plastic/glass fiber on one screw on top of it...the heal binding is better than the T2's though...oh and you can put your ski crampons on without taking your boot out of the binding!
