Dunno if you guys have seen it, but for a while Google has been doing what they're calling a 'Personalized Homepage'. A couple of days ago, they released some things that allow you to make your own little modules for that page.
Being addicted to 'Oh, shiny!', I decided to have a go this afternoon at making a little module to show webcams on the homepage. I thought I'd share it, incase some of your guys would like it.
To add it to your Google Homepage (once you've logged in; everyone with a Gmail acocunt has a homepage), click on 'Add Content' at the top left.
Once this has expanded out, look for the box labeled 'Search by Topic or feed URL'.
In this box, enter the URL http://ski.the-edg.net/widgets/SnowWebcams.xml
Click Go, and then click OK when the alert dialog comes up (It just tells me that I may be able to see your preferences [which I can't]).
The page should then reload, with a new section entitled "Webcam", but with no image.
Click on the 'Edit' button, and select a resort from the drop down. Click save, and your little webcam should appear.
If you click on the image it opens it fully-expanded in a new window.
Currently, the amount of webcams available is quite small, but if you want one added, just post here with the name of the resort and the URL to the webcam (this only works with resorts that have images as their webcam, not the live feed sites [e.g. Mammoth])
Next project is a Biglines picture-of-the-day box, but that's for tomorrow!
