    freerides: flex to walkmode fix

I recently experienced this little glitch with my freerides and started examining what might be causing it since it was only happening on one ski.

I could see that the lock down was not fully down and I could push it down but it would not stay there. I could also see that the tabs on the end cap of the adjuster rail were not seatedproperly, they were sticking out too far to the back and was prolly the reason I skied out.

I ended up narrowing it down to the fact the 3 little rubber bumpers/feet under the heel piece were keeping the end of the adjuster rail from seating in the lock properly. It was just too high and prevented the lock from fully engaging making it look like the end cap on the adjuster rail was too far back.

To fix it I shaved off some of the bumpers. This let the end cap on the adjuster rail sit properly in the lock and allowed my to fully engage the lock.

This is prolly isolated to my set up and was prolly a result of the core fix that i had done with these skis (bump in the top sheet due to a delam problem and subsequent epoxying of the core in that spot) but I thought that maybe someone else might have a similar problem.

Core shot and delam problem caused surface bump on the top sheet under the heel? Those must be your rock skis?

I think your fix makes sense, cause the only time I've had that issue was due to excess ice buildup under the lock down tab.....which would essentially be the same as having a bump in your top sheet.

Make sure you've taken enough off the bumpers (but not too much!) so your lock down mode to the heel piece isn't too tight. I think that extra stress and friction caused my heel lever nobs to wear down on one of my bindings and eventually created a little bit of slop in the lock down mode.

The heel delam was caused by a shitty mount job in a shop that ended up pulling the rear screws out. Rossi would not warranty then since I bought them used and they had been drilled a bunch, the shop basically said they would not fix it either.

So instead of trashing the skis I took a chance and tried to fix the delam myself.

I basically drilled a series of small holes in the top sheet where the delam was happening. I got some plastic friendly epoxy (re:foam core) and injected epoxy into the core with a syringe until all the space was filled. I flexed the ski a bunch to spread the epoxy and then clamped it down. I also filled all the previous mount holes with epoxy too. So that is where the bump in the top sheet comes from.

The edges and bases are actually in extremely good condition.

I got luck with the freeride having a very differnt hole pattern and did not have to mount into the repaired core.

ahhhh...huck to walkmode. It's an art form, get used to it.

I feel like this is unavoidable with freerides + softish ski. This past week I have discovered the beauty of trekkers. Big skis go everywhere. yes.
    Drive slow, homie.

    Waterbar to walk mode.

I would actually prefer it to one ski pulling off because of getting caught in a shrub and then face planting in front of a bunch of little kids.

edit - which reminds me that I need to turn up my din a bit
