To all idiots who think the plane won't fly.
How the fuck do you think it gets through the air once it's off the ground?

You watch - they're positing (unlike the OP) that the treadmill speed is tied to the wheel speed, not vehicle movement. Therefore if the wheels rotate at x the treadmill rotates at -x. Since the propeller/jet moves the plane independently of the treadmill (as has been shown ad nauseam) the wheels and Treadmill will rotate nearly instantly at the speed of light...
What's weird is that the posed environment has absolute friction between the wheels and treadmill, but 0 friction in the bearings.
I thought I had a pretty good handle on it before, but I'm no longer sure who's arguing for what result on what basis.
edit: I'm pretty sure bio-smear thinks I'm arguing for something that I'm not.

If some of the best times of my life were skiing the UP in -40 wind chill with nothing but jeans, cotton long johns and a wine flask to keep warm while sleeping in the back of my dad's van... does that make me old school?
"REHAB SAVAGE, REHAB!!!"
Here's a twist on the same idea.
1 Plane is travelling through the air at 200mph.
2 It touches down onto a really long treadmill that is going 200mph in the other direction.
3 Pilot leaves the jet engine revved at the same throttle (and thus air speed).
Do you really think the plane comes to a standstill ?
Of course not.
The fucking thrust is the same - the jet is still hauling ass away from you at 200mph.
Moroons!
Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason
somebody selling wizard exploders?
There's definitely right and left weed, but never wrong weed.
"No property in physics where a stationary object causes a velocity."
I guess he missed the week on magnetism.![]()
This is the worst pain EVER!
magnetism...the tape was not magnetic...the comment delt with the argument that the tape was causing a velocity.
There are a couple of other forces that will cause an acceleration (0 velocity to a > 0 velocity) from a stationary object such as gravity and electric charge. But the comment made was in regards to the stationary scotch tape causing a velocity.
Doc
I hope this puts an end to this debate: http://my.break.com/content/view.aspx?ContentID=502219
As you can see, the cats did not take off.
Did Anyone else see the Mythbusters on this?
Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now.
external power (not running on ground) will take off.
so plane with jets=take off, with wheels spinnin' like a mofo
car on runway, will not take off, because it will not be moving relative to the earth. (car 100 mph forward - treadmill 100 mph backward) (and cars can't fly)
you on a treadmill - won't fly
you with a jetpack on a treadmill - would be fucking sweet. and you'd fly.
I ran on a treadmill last night for the first time since ACL recon, and this stupid thing was all I could think about.
