    Adjusting Bindings

    Hey Everyone,

I need to adjust my Salomon S912Ti bindings, but can't find the screw to loosen the heelpiece so I can slide it forward. If ayone knows where the screw is or has a diagram of how to move the heelpiece forward that would be great. Thanks.

There is no screw. Just a little metal clip on the back that you flip up with a flathead.

EDIT: Do you know how to set your forward pressure? Just thinking that if you don't know how to slide the heel peice forward you probably don't. If not take them to some one who knows what they are doing cause if you set it wrong you could really fuck your self up. Just my .02

Thanks for the concern. Everything else on the bindings has been set and tested professionally in a ski shop, i just needed to move the heel forward a few clicks to fir my new downsized boots. Unless this competely alters the release settings, then I should be alright.

You need to have the shop do it. new boots change everything.

Thanks Geoff. I will have the shop look at them some time, but could you extrapolate as to why, I'm just curious.

If you have to move the heel piece forward, the new boots are obviously smaller. The difference in actual boot size (i.e. 27.0, 27.5, etc.) matters not. What matters is the BOOT SOLE LENGTH, which is the actual length in millimeters of the sole of your boot from toe to heel (typically printed on the outside of the heel). Change the boot sole length, and you effectively change the force required to exit the boot from the binding. Example: a very small boot in a binding set at 5.0, versus a very large boot in the same binding at the same setting will release in a completley different manner. If you just move the heel piece forward, without readjusting your DIN, you are affecting the way the binding releases, which, unless you know what your doing, is bad.

This probably could've been summed up a lot quicker, but I'm all tech, yo.

Also, if you move forward not only can the DIN be wrong but also the forward pressure may be wrong too. Which means surprise releases (in this case) at high speed etc. I think it's worth the $ to have it checked and maybe remounted. I had to remount my bindings when moving from a 27 shell to a 26 1/2 (shell is 26) FWIW.

I don't own any Salomon bindings but on your normal binding there will be a little tick mark on the track and two ticks on the heel piece (on the side of the binding). Or there will be two ticks on the track and one tick on the heel piece. Or there will be a small window with a bar visible. With the boot in the binding the single tick should be between the double ticks (perferably centered). If you have your old boots then start with those to see how it looks.

When the boot length decreases the DIN increases to get the same release force. It's not a big change since your feet haven't changed in size. Here is a chart for setting up the DIN. See how the boot sole length changes the DIN a little.

edit: Salomons also have a toe height adjustment which will have to be checked too. Here is a description. I can't vouch for the accuracy but it will give you and idea.

If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

I am only familiar with Look and Atomic Binders, this is the first pair of Salmon's I've owned. They will be taken to a shop to get tested, but for a day or two, they should be fine. There is not a significant difference in sole length, I its 10mm smaller.

It only takes one run to destroy your knees because your bindings didn't release properly.
