So, I have assembled what I thought to be a pretty decent 2-ski Colorado quiver. (God I love EBAY):
K2 apache Chief 188 & Volkl Ax4 188
So, last weekend I finally got the Volkls in the mail and I also got the K2s mounted. I skied on the Chiefs at Vail on Saturday and had a blast. The skis rocked. They plowed through the heavy shit and still railed on the groomers. They can also land anything.
Then, I took out the AX4s on Sunday at Breck…I just didn’t have much fun on them. I have heard soo much good stuff about the G4/AX4. I mean they are legendary. I realize that you really have to stay on top of them and drive them hard. I am a strong skier and a pretty big dude but, they just didn’t feel quick at all. They came mounted with markers (I know ) and I was able to get the forward pressure right with the heel as far back as it could go. So, it looks like I’m ~1.5cm back form center now. Do you think that is making a huge difference in how the ski rides? I haven’t really experimented much with deviating from the center mounting spot.
After Saturday I’m pretty convinced of the Chiefs potential to be my everyday ski. (I just wish it was twin tip.) I was probably gonna pull the markers off the Volkls and remount them w/ p12s or freerides anyway. Will that make a big difference? Or should I just sell ‘em, ride the K2 everyday and get some cheap park skis?
