last time I got an email from Adam, he said they'd had to get rid of the white plastic topsheets (and therefore all topsheet art) to cut costs or to give back to the bank or generate some revenue when they were broke or whatever (I can't really remember which); which is why all their skis now have the veneer topsheet. So I don't think they could make any more porno skis, or skis with ANY topsheet art, which is really a bummer - Mike Tierney is a great artist.

I'm just glad I was finally able to lay my hands on a set of "chill blues", only sets I'd like to get in the future would be an FC in Air Raid or Rasta or or Crystal, which are my other favorites.

[thread drift]I don't have any idea how it is possible. I don't think it is, I think he gets special builds.

And you know damned well that I've bugged them every time I've ever contacted them to make something longer (hell, even flat-tailed 185s would be better, I could almost see myself on a flat 185 that is 115 underfoot) And they constantly assure me there isn't much demand for longer ones.

[Q: How can giant, fat, long big mountain skis not dominate a country where there are literally NO TREES at the ski hills?]

Short as they are, they are very high on my temptation list.

195 FGS 240, 250, and 260 flex. All three individual skis have mismatch graphics.

Longer Kingswoods will come eventually, I know I want them...he's really strict on his quality control and wants to make sure everything is perfect before committing to a new press, and making bigger sizes.

My story with Igneous is that I was a good buddy with Tierney when I was at Boulder, and he was in Steamboat. Mike used to hand paint skis he found in the trash bins behind ski shops, and it was his life dream to design ski graphics, when at the time....every ski graphic was pretty lame.

We both entered the Jackson Extremes in 97' or so, and the day before the contest we saw Adam on the top of the venue with his signature black 215 cm's. We knew of Igneous through the little blurb about them in Powder, earlier that year. Immediately, Mike told Adam that he'd work for free, move to Jackson, and design the graphics. Mike showed Adam some of his work, and the following season Mike literally lived in the factory drawing and making skis.

We designed the Pinhead graphic together with Images off of Lycos. After that, he went gang busters making graphics. My all time favorite is the Raven that starts with the moon, then you see the bloody raven on the tail spelling Igneous in blood. SICK! However, I think the porno graphic took him the longest, he had to crop every pic of each girl represented for which there were hundreds.

I wish he still designed skis...but he's doing pretty well now in another field, and he's happy.

    right on...
the only reason kingswood isn't written off is because they ARE so well made (to the point that the are mentioned in a iggy thread) i would order a pair of 190-195 the moment available.

YES! I love the Air Raid, but the Corvid graphic is absolutely sick. One day at Mammoth, ArmChair had a pair of FGS painted up Corvid, and I knew I had to have a pair.

    Gratuitous insert:

    Sweet story, BTW.

    Damn, I almost forgot....

Mike made a pair of Igneous 200 FATS for NZ huckmaster, extreme, extraordinaire, Mr. Paul Ahern.

NZ SICKBIRD! Its blue with kia birds in the tip, and the NZ flag going down the tail I believe....kind of like a Kiwi Airforce theme....not unlike the AIR-RAID.

I may able to get someone down there to take a pic for me...if I do, I'll post it in this thread.

I'd heard there were a pair or 3 - only one though?

Yes, not skea457....pretty sure about that.

Sure, there are a couple pair...Todd Windle might have a pair, Paul may had one or two, Geoff Small, and maybe Mike. That's the best guess I've got.

We did a run of 3 Candy Pro Models (aka- porno ski). It was named after a girl on a flyer shoved in Tierney's hands while down at SIA in Vegas one year.

For enough $$$, they can still put whatever you want on a topsheet, and I'm sure they still have Candy on file...b

    Thumbs up

Been riding FaGS since '00. Funny how they're considered midfats these days.

    1) 185 FaGS, RA 240flex, Air Raid graphics.
5 seasons / ~250-300 days later I blew out an edge and camber dead. Fixable and relegated as rock skis.

    2) 185 FaGS, RA 240flex, Clear (white) topsheet
Gear Swap from Stanley last year. Just as good as my first pair.

Of course it befits their (at the time prophetic) original name: Super Mid Fats (aka: Smurfs)

    They're that good.

There are ather good, strong skis on the market; but I think one of Igneous' main selling points was that everyone (as in EVERYONE) should be able to get 100 days out of a pair of skis. I doubt that any other brand's skis has seen so so much hard skiing and mistreatment as Iggies and lived to tell the tale. At a time where I chewed my way through numerous Asteroids, Explosivs, Launchers, 4x4Big/Arno's and other stuff, the skiing stability and seemingly indestructibility of a used pair of FFLs I bought in 2002 from mildbill over pmag gear swap did more for my skiing than any other ski I'd had at the time, seeing that I fanally had I ski that I trusted not to blow up under me.

Btw., the skis are still alive today, they're the ones I'm standing around holding on the Norrøna webside, ski/board cathegory

    my .02:

my first pair were bought in 1998. i put ~500 days on them. still good to go, and Z still skis them.

my second & third pair were bought in 2000. i put 100+ days on each pair, and sold them in very good condition, and i am sure they will be in use for many more days to come.
