Mineral opened today for the very first time this season as a kind of surprise bonus for those who hung around long enough today. Four awesome pow runs in there were the topper of the day for me. The first one was obviously completely untracked, and the other three were so lightly tracked where we went that they will remain cached in my happy file for some time to come. They even left the basin open longer than normal which allowed pretty much everyone who wanted some to get some.
This self/unemployed gig is working out pretty well so far, at least in the skiing department. Over the years I've caught oh so many sweet season openings of Mineral Basin, Peruvian Gulch, Anderson's, Dalton's, Little Cloud chair, North Baldy, the Tram's first day of the season, etc., etc.. But never, to my recollection, have I ever done every one of those in the same season.
This has been a banner year for me for first-time openers--in a kind of "Grand Slam of Snowbird Skiing" sort of way. All that's really left now is the LC Bowl, Pipeline, and the White Pine entry.
I'll have to do my best to get them....
