I would. Vail and BC have good snow, good terrain, and they're packed w/ gapers that don't use either.

You wouldn't be interested, they won't let you on the hill with racing bindings. No DINs greater than 7 thanks.

Just skin up past the bottom lifts and don't go back down all day. It's free then.

The Colorado Pass doesn't do shit for you if you're a college student from back east chasing pow or trying to ski on the cheap. Also, most people on here vote with their desire to ski pow, not which resort has the cheapest tickets. If I travel half way across the country to ski and Vail has twice as much snow as everybody else, I'm going.

People can pontificate all day on the virtues of the Colorado Pass. It doesn't change the fact that $81 is too much fucking money for a lift ticket.

True for season passes. But not really for day tix. I'd assume you might save a couple dollars if you buy tix from King Soopers or maybe a ski shop in Denver. But it's still not worth it for what they are willing to charge.

This is purely Vail taking a stance against Aspen , Deer Valley, & Sun Valley to essentially say "We're better because we charge more" - Aspen had always been pricepoint leader (first to break $70) - but now it's like Vail is saying "yeah, how you like me now!" It's a status thing and Vail is clearly trying to distance themselves from the competition.

Unfortunately, it's the core skiers that end up losing in the end, especially in a time when the ski industry is flat and there is little growth projected.

Any resort is overvaluing at $81 a day, because those that travel are the ones paying for it. Value at.....

    Family of three

    3 tickets to vail - $243
Carpool Gas - $30 (give or take)
Food (brownbag) - $15 (meat, bread, bananana por tres)
    ____________________
    = $288

To go skiing for one day????

I can go take a heli run and skin all day for under $100 here.

hey, I have a solution to insane ticket prices:

    We create Maggot Mountain.

It will be set up like this:
It will only have slow lifts to access the goods, so that the snow stays better longer (less people on snow=better conditions). In the liftlines, we have a jongline and a magline. To qualify as a mag you have to be a permanent member of the board though. No signing up the day before you go. Price for maggots: $3,000 down payment so we can get capital to build up the infrastructure, and that is a lifetime membership. We might need dues, but we'll see about that. Jong prices: we'll keep them around $30, because we'll be a cool mountain. And we'll love the locals.

In all honesty, it's my life dream to make a ski resort, kinda following the model of Silverton, especially. That would be ill. So if anyone wants to dump their life savings into it...Id be down.

Vail/Beaver Creek or Deer Valley - I'm sure it will be one of those. Kind of a pointless pool.

How does the Colorado pass work? It's cheaper than a week at Vail buying day passes, right? Seems like there might be a money-making opportunity for some enterprising maggot in here somewhere.

If you are flying across the country, why in gods name would you ever even begin to consider vail as your destination?

73$ is too much for Heavenly. I see the Ski shultle buesness from South shore to any ski area other than Heavenly doing very well this winter. I wonder what the price will be for someone staying @ a South Shore hotel Casino?
I guess first time skiers to Tahoe think the price is average for the Tahoe area? Due to the waco prices in other parts of the country

since when has skiing been an "affordable" activity? big resorts bank on the baby boomer family who are willing to shell out big $'s for perceived superior amenities and service like meticulously groomed trails.

This is one of the reasons I don't feel bad when I have friends in from out of town, and I let them use my CO pass to ski for free at these resorts the days I"m not using them. Fuck 'em if they're going to charge $80 to ski for 5-6 hrs.

As long as people are willing to pay those prices, they'll charge that much.

It's season pass prices that effect the poor locals. Don't fuck with those prices and I won't bitch.

They may or may not be the devil but Vail Resorts sold me an unlimited season pass for $365 (Vail/BC/Breck/the stone/ A-basin). Vail has decided that being a teacher in the valley deserves a little love. As far as I'm concered Vail is taking care of me and mine.
