    How cold is too cold?

When do you decide "eh... I don't think I'll be skiing very long tomorrow?" When the high is 0 degrees? Minus 5? 20 below windchill?

Or are you JUST THAT FUCKING CORE that you are immune to frigid temps?

I am anticipating skiing tomorrow might be pretty damn miserable, considering a high of 2 degrees, snow all day, and significant wind. Were it much colder, don't think I'd head out.

    What are your limits?
    Days on snow 06-07: 3
    Days behind a boat summer 2006: 24

No limit if the snow is good. I just go in more often to warm up and wear more layers.

Sunday it was what, a high of 2 with 40mph winds at Alta? And I discovered that my puffy jacket fits under my shell.

I've skied when it was -20F in VT. That was about my limit. We had to go inside every other run to get the feeling back in our feet.

I'll usually go out in most conditions...can't really quantify my limit in degrees. It depends on a lot of variables, including how long I have to drive to get there. If it is just bitterly cold it is definitely a go versus having strong winds to boot. I usually take a stab at it but the poor circulation in my feet determines how long I head out for...they don't last long even with properly fitted boots and warmers.

do like 5 whiteroom permagrin laps and then you will be like, "wow, i just realized i havent felt my hands or my face in like an hour....oh well...cant stop now"

As long as it's sunny and more importantly not windy skiing in 0 degrees is not too bad.

Coldest day I ever skied it was -60something in Stowe witht he windchill. Brutal. Had to stop every other run and go inside to warm up. Everyone was wearing those neoprene masks and the lifties chucked a heavy wool blanket over everyone who boarded.

I imagine, other than it being a factor of aforementioned genetalia, it depends on resort. At Jay, -20 is cold, at Squaw, +20 is cold... That said, I am slightly happy about my first days being this weekend @ Vail when the temps have eased up a bit...

I once skied in the negatives with windchill, and when I woke up the next morning, the skin on my chin pealed off. No cold is too cold if you bundle up properly my friend

I'm a fucking pussy. ...the wind is what gets me. Wind chill of like -10 is enough for me.

...but on the east coast, if you expect to ski in january and early february, best be ok with highs of 0. More trips to the lodge for me on those days.

Maggots should be ready for all conditions. Please reference board name.

I'm also with Phish - really cold and no pow, well, what's the point.

I refer you to your first sentence. Skiing is better than not skiing.

Whenever my hands or toes go numb and don't want to unfreeze. When I was in VT it occured when the air temp was about -10 and the wind chill was -40.

If you have properly fitting gear, a down jacket, and a facemask, you should be fine. Just don't take those gloves off.

There is a range between -20 windchill and -40 windchill where things start getting miserable.

Below that- its almost fun- like being an artic explorer

Stowe, in late January and February. It's never too cold in UT. The snow is just too damn good!

I definitely believe that the same temperature generally feels colder in the East by far, I would assume it's the humidity.

In that case I tend to doubt that it would be very cold out....the spring, tshirts, tans, and pond skimming aren't usually associated with -20 degree temps.
