    Core Shots

So we all do it--ski out the rest of day after taking a particularly nasty core shot. How bad is it for your skis (or board) to ski with a core shot? Got any quick fixes for them if you can't get to a shop before you are out again??

Well, first off it doesn't really hurt your skis to ski on a wound for the rest of the day, other than the chance of a little water getting in there.

Just keep a stock of p-tex candles handy and repair them yourself. Takes a few minutes. Clean out the wound with some sandpaper. If you have it, apply a little epoxy, then light the the drip candle with a cig lighter and drip in. Let it pile up a little. Allow to fully cool, then use a metal scraper, like a paint scraper to scrape off excess and smooth to base. If it is a long wound, start scraping in the middle outwards. This will lessen the chace of your scraper snagging the whole repair and ripping it out. Just scrape lightly and a little at a time at first, 'till it is almost flush with the base. Then you can press a little harder with your thumbs to get it way smooth.
