I may be interested in the Feb 24-26th but I'm going to have to do some planning. I'll be in Jackson the 11th-18th so that quick a turnaround may be difficult at work.

Initially I was not sure that a flatlander nearing 40 would be able to keep up with an All-Maggot group. Gordy, I don't know if you are familiar with the Extremely Canadian Camps at W/B. I've gone through their 2 day camps a couple of times. After reading Bob Mc's and Castro's TR from last year's camp, it sounds like the pace and terrain is pretty similar, so I'm thinking I might fit pretty well into a group like that. If you can provide any feedback it may help me figure out if I'm better suited for a Maggot crew or your standard camp. Unfortuantely if I can't make the end of Feb work I may have to wait until next year.

    I've done both

Terrain: similar; I didn't feel like I was in over my head during either
Pace: Gordy's camp was much faster; I was in the lowest group and I was exhausted by the end of each day and definitely after 3 days; at the EC clinic I was in the highest group and I was tired, but I didn't feel like I had any trouble keeping up

I just reinforce the fact that it is a Big Mtn camp and that we ski the WHOLE mountain. I tell them we ski a lot and that it is a tiring three days, especially when you factor in all of the apres activities. Out of 75 people last year there were only about 4 people who might have outgunned themselves, but they sacked it up and did o.k. without bringing anyone down.
I'd advise attendees to not ski deep pow for three str8 days leading into the camp. Jello legs on day one make for a long three days.

Were you in the Maggot Camp? I was in the top group at my EC camp last year and we picked up the pace from my previous run through. We had a couple of skiers who wanted to go at it all day so we cut out the video analysis sessions and reviewed video on the camcorder over lunch, which we also shortened.

As far as being in over my head, I wouldn't say that. You could've cut glass with my shit at night, but if you're not scaring me at some point during camp then I'm not expanding my horizons.

Yes, I totally agree but will the benifit out weigh the $400. I am sure I can learn a lot but I could also spend the $400 on more skiing time and learn a lot.
Hmm. Snowbird ski school does private group of 2-5 people for $575 per day.

I'm sure that Gordy's camp will teach you a bunch more than that would

Is there hiking involved in the camp? That would definitely effect the legs!

I have to see how my schedule shakes out before I commit to anything, but I'm likely in for either the maggot camp or a january one. I'd prefer a january one, so I can pretend I'm a good skier.

Anything to offer a free heeler?

Hey Gordy or others. From reading the posts about previous camps, it's obvious that even a super solid alpine skier can gain some skills at your camps.

How about a very aggressive tele skier? I'll ski anything with snow, but haven't really dropped anything over 15 feet in the last year. I like to mess around even on bad snow days, so I do also enjoy terrain park kickers, pipe, and small rails. I'm always trying to push it in the tight and steep and crash more than most (read - I make mistakes) so I wear a full face and lots of pads. Sounds like the pace isn't too fast that a fit tele skier couldn't keep up, but is this camp going to offer me some good skills to ski away with.

If so I'd be in for it.

I was in the January maggot camp. One thing to note was the heavy snow kept a lot of terrain from being open. I was definitely expanding my horizons though, by trying to make clean turns through some challenging terrain vs. simply gaping down it. ...and then there was the choke that Chris Collins talked me into straightlining.

Damn I'll be leaving Utah on the 15th. Just one week too early. I'm not too disappointed though because from Str8line's description of the skiing abilities necessary I'm not sure I'd even be able to handle the lowest level. I think I could count on one hand the number of times I skied powder deeper than my calves and the steepest runs around here are either short or not really steep.

Since I'm going to become a Utard in exactly 31 days I'm going to have to pull the trigger on this.

God knows that I have beatered down many of challanges on the hill, and have had very few moments of clarity when everything just clicked. I am by no means a hardcore ripper, but I am definately willing to lay it on the line to help improve my game, have fun with some Mags, overcome the hesitation factor with some coaching, and hopefully rip some lines with some new found authority. I'm very interested

I'm in. I have a class in Vegas on the 27th, but I can manage that.
