    Ice Climbing TR 12-1-05

Well, since my employer forbids off-piste skiing I figured I'd play it safe and go solo an ice climb. There were prolly 3 sections comparable to the one pictured (stick figure for scale - I'm 5'10") and a bunch of lower-angled stuff.

No action shots 'cause I was alone.

I can't imagine the job that would make such a restriction acceptable

Think it may have been you that mentioned something like this before - can you explain how this works?

I like the little stick figure drawn in on the first pic.

    It's a nice touch.

Yeah, I don't really have any photo editing software so I just kept cropping and re-expanding in powerpoint.

Ice fall is in Zermatt, CH - don't think it has a name, but pretty sure I did the first ascent this winter.

As for the job - I work at a boarding school, so my boss has weird tentacles of control that extend into virtually every aspect of my life. You might be remembering some posts from earlier in the year when I wasn't even allowed to ski at all, regardless of terrain. Job ends in 2 weeks and I'm moving to Jackson, so it's OK.

Does he keep you in a box - gimp like?

Glad to hear you're getting away from it though.

Nope, just holds a bonus over my head and threatens me with firing/deportation - no big deal really. Apparently he did fire a guy for skiing off-piste a few years back.

I skied ~ 5 days back in the early season and regularly sample the off-piste goods, but just have to be very stealthy.

Have to publicly slap you for soloing ice, you idiot. Get yourself back here in one piece.

(But yes, I do think it looks tasty.)

As for the pics, I'm impressed by your skills of an artist. Can you draw a dragon?

Well, before this post I was just a stressed little monkey waiting for exams to be over.

Now I'm stressed and envious. Good job.

ps - I suppose I should say something responsible about soloing ice, but really, leading is not much safer. Although with a partner there you have someone to drag your broken ass out should things go wrong.
My dog did not bite your dog, your dog bit first, and I don't have a dog.

We need to go climb some ice stat, and post some pics. Maybe some oversized shots of our heads.

The close up head shots work better when you look like your to puke.

    nhtele,
Is this in the canyon under the train bridge at Winklematten? Or up at Furi? Looks like it's all well climbable even now!

How much longer you in Zermatt for? Any good pow lately?
