I have been twiddling my thumbs lately with work. Now its really piled on (as the snow stacks up) and I'm going to miss Friday. Not only that, but I have legitimate business to deal with at Kirkwood that has moved to secondary priority. Sole proprietorship is a bitch.

A guy named Marc Sexton just posted a KW TR to the SkiPal list:

They only had chair 5 open but there are plenty of lines to go off on and there not many people anyway. The snow wasn't too bad. I made sure to wax my skis and board and that made it pleasant. You could go off trail a bit through the trees and coverage was surprisingly good.

What sucked was that it literally snowed hard the whole day without relief. Ordinarily this is good but the wet snow gets you soaking wet in short order. Combine that with heavy wind and I've felt warmer with temps in the single digits. I doubt that it was much colder than the 30s but it felt a lot worse. The only thing to stay dry were my feet.

There has been so much snow it looks like chair 6 will be opening on Friday along with chair 11. It will be fresh tracks all the way and hopefully not too many people will show up...8-) Saturday will probably be a madhouse but it should still be nice because it will be cooling down.

A good base has been laid down and now we have to hope for some nice dry snow to go on top. I'll take a few inches of dry over a foot of wet but we needed the wet to fill things in.

You know what really, really sucks? I think I'm gonna drive to the Wood to pick up my pass at 8am tomorrow so I don't have to deal with the giant line on Saturday. Be sure to laugh at my stupid ass if you see me walk by.

There's no way I can stay nor can I hit the Heav. It's month end and I'm gonna be pulling a long ass day tomorrow behind the desk. Hopefully there's a lot of season left though, so I'm not too bummed.

Get some for me and be sure to call and gloat later on.

Apparently over SIX INCHES of rain fell at Blue Canyon in the last 24 hours. Must be rediculous snow depths about 8000ft. Castle Peak Saturday, Anyone?

Lego and I will be hitting sick lines at Donner Ski Ranch about 2pm today, if anyone is interested. That is, if Sugarbowl isn't open.

Edit: Chair 6 at 10am on Saturday morning, though!!!

Anyone hit Alpine this morning? Glad I didn't rally at 4am like I was thinking....have to be content to ski some wet groomers tmrw...oh well, early season (grumble..)

Hopefully?! Dude, it's only the first day of the season!

EDIT: KW is reporting 18 - 30 from this last round! Wohoo! My god....tomorrow is going to be a MADHOUSE! Factor in the snow + opening weekend + Chair 6 the only lift to the summit....ughhhh, I'll probably be spending half the day in the season pass pickup line anyways.

Six is going to turn today at noon. Drive up today or going touring tomorrow or get sloppy seconds.

Watching the webcam, it looks like the first chair on #5 will be at 10:00 AM. Lots of waiting this morning.
