i don't think i'll be able to do Pastime. Mrs. OHC will be on her way back from a bidness trip, so i will have little maggette OHC #1 & #2. apparently my little maggettes don't dig the guys at Pastime. if we did something like Blue Coyote, my little maggettes would be stoked to play some vids while Dad enjoys a brew. just a suggestion for what works better for me... or if anyone wants to join me for dinner there, i might hit it w/ the little OHC's by myself!

Mrs. C. & I got passes at Rose and KW. Rose is 13 miles up the highway from our house, and when taking kiddos skiing for 1/2 day (limited stamina), it's a lot more convenient. Kid tix are $12-13 at either place.

Chair 10 at 10? 10 isn't forecast to be open for this weekend, but wait and see what Thursday/Friday snowfall brings.

Groomers could actually be accurately described as packed powder. Just a few spots of that East Coast man made death ice. But, it was still a little Heavenlyesque:


Some of the trees were even worth venturing into. Surprisingly I never even bashed the granite 4" below when I ventured into them.


Anyway, the Heave was worth it! Good groomers and lots of fun....for 5 runs.

AKA, myself, Bodie and Leo hit up Carson Pass today. Hiked 'towards' Red Lake Peak and did two runs on the first little bowl that faces NE. Then did several practice beacon searches.

The coverage and snowpack was surprising 'OK'. Basically it was 2-3 feet of dense snow with a little windlayer on top. The skiing was alright, definitely very icy in spots (where the wind didn't deposit about 1" of the softer snow that fell last evening).

So what kind of terrain can a Tahoe jong expect to be open next week if these storms do their jobs? Will it most likely be a rock board situation? Regardless, I will stoked to be riding anything other than than the mountains over here where I am.

I think I remember you saying you're staying at Heavenly correct? If you're just skiing the Heave, you probably don't have to bring rock boards provided you will be sticking to what's open (ie. trails).

If you plan on hitting Kirkwood...and if they get enough snow to open Chair 6. You can expect terrain ranging from steep, fast groomers...to holy-shit-how-did-I-get-here-and-how-do-I-get-out rocky steeps....for the latter, you'll want you're rock boards.

I just happen to be staying near Heavenly because I will be in South Tahoe. That is just my central location. I was hoping to go to Kirkwood, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Heavenly. I know most people on here don't like Heavenly but I want to check it out at least.

At this point I am thinking it is pointless, and most of the people posting in this thread are probably already in the Tahoe area, but here is a thread where I am offering a really good deal to stay at a nice place in South Tahoe next week if anybody in interested.

Also/or it would be really cool if anybody wants to meet up and make some turns sometime next week. I get in on Sunday the 4th and leave on Sunday the 11th and have never been to Tahoe before. I am pretty much up for riding anywhere where it is good or just anywhere. I would try to keep my jongness to a minimum and if I become a nuisance you could just ditch me. I won't have access to the net to check this board once I am there since I don't have a laptop unless the condo has a PC available. So I could PM my cell # to anyone that wants to ride next week. Getting stoked now that there is snow

Looks like wet snow. Snow level is at 8000'. It's pouring like mad in South Lake, and it's not supposed to stop until tomorrow morning. If all goes well, this should give us a really good base.
