Anyone hit Alpine this morning? Glad I didn't rally at 4am like I was thinking....have to be content to ski some wet groomers tmrw...oh well, early season (grumble..)

I hit Alpine to grab my pass and make a few runs. I was hoping for Roundhouse, but it wasn't going to open until 10:30. So I skied 3 laps on Kangaroo and went back to work. Not much to miss, groomed and some dust on shrubbery. Coverage up high looked amazing in Beaver and Estelle, but man, down low is hurting for sure.

    Nevertheless, turns were made.

OK, I admit it, Barstow is worse.
You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

rumor has it they may get Summt open tmrw...if so, some hikes out to Beav and Estelle may be called for. I figure a few hundred feet of goodness followed by some bush-whacking is better than nothing!

I wouldn't dream too much. Alpine couldn't get Roundhouse running today because they couldn't get signage unstuck from some icy puddle. Seriously. They've had how long to prep for opening the mountain and they can't open Roundhouse on time?

There's no way they'll open Beaver and Estelle, because there's NO way down to the base of Summit. If I was a dreamer, I'd dream about them opening up Summit and then running Alpine Chair to do laps up there.

ok, thx for the beta, haven't seen the mountain since last week, so wasn't sure what was doable, etc based on coverage. sounds like tmrw will be fun anyhoo, do some roundhouse laps and pray that summit and alpine chairs spin...but seems like last yr they hardly ran alpine chair...which was a bummer.

    email from Heavenly

    Good morning, Mark:

Heavenly received over two and a half feet of snow yesterday and overnight, leaving us with a five-foot base on our open trails! With the storm behind us, we?re looking at clear skies and cooler temps, which will maintain the snow surface throughout the day. It also enables us to keep the snowmaking guns firing, allowing us to open even more terrain! New openings include Comet Trail, with some California runs coming soon! We couldn?t ask for better conditions heading into the weekend.

Did they really get 30" in 24 hrs? Did anybody go? Save some for me next week.

Anybody have the lowdown on the weather here. I have limited access to the web while I am here (I am going to get kicked out of this coffee shop and net access where I am staying is $$$). The last I saw on the weather said 1" maybe Wed night and Thurs? Is this still the forcast. I was up at Squaw today and there was a mixture of sleet, snow, rain, and fog. I don't know what the south end got. And the snow at Squaw sucks btw.
