    TR: Too Deep To Ski

I was hoping to punch a trail to some skiing today and then go sledding for the rest of the day. It snowed 30" on a shitty layer so I didn't want to ski until everything settled a bit and bonded. But we weren't able to punch a trail within 7 miles of skiing. The pictures below are just of breaking trail. So whoever went first got this type of uninterupted face shots for miles and miles and miles and miles. There were no other sledders around, just untracked deep snow. I'd rather be skiing, but punching a trail for a day or two to access some skiing is sometimes just what you gotta do. I think we put in maybe 12 miles of this kind of riding. Great day.

We're not stuck, this is what the sleds look like when you stop.

Check the trough through the snow. You can see the tip of Eric's sled near him.

Sled face shots are the best. Nothing like powering into a bottomless turn at 30 MPH and having cold smoke blast you in the face for several seconds on end.

Wow. Things are definitely shaping up.

Gramps, we often get 1-2% storms. That was a just another 5% storm.

    Sleds are Summit 700 151", a Yamaha 700 144", and an Artic Cat 800 159".

that looks like the place to be
heard reports from yesterday, scary clouds of white ripping by...
    eidt: avy report
One day I’m riding around on my skateboard wishing it would snow and the next day I’m shoveling my sidewalk. So how much did it snow? Well hold onto your seat because since Friday night the Bridger Mountains got 30 inches of 5% density snow. That’s right 30. The northern Gallatins are showing 20+ inches, and the ski areas around Lone Peak got 10-12 inches. Further south, including the mountains around West Yellowstone and Cooke City, received 6-8 inches.

Well actually a bit more, over 16" from lift close Friday, to lift close Sunday (which is like unto a miracle for Snowbowl). Up top that is. NWS doesn't measure by the lodge).

It's getting there, just agonizingly slowly. At least it's nice and chilly up there (11 degrees).
