    Euro Road Trip

My planned Christmas trip to La Grave was giving me some major concern onahcahnta the fact that there's been a stubborn high pressure system sitting over the Southern French Alps for the last couple of weeks and I want fluff.

Therefore the plan has changed. I'm driving down to Innsbruck on the 26th and skiing at Alta Badia in the Dolomites on the 27th and St Anton on the 28th. Then it's a night blast through Switzerland into the Chamonix valley, staying at Sallanches. The Combe de Gers at Flaine is our target on the 29th and somewhere in Chamonix (crowds and weather dependent) on the 30th.

    Stoked.

I'm in St. Anton for a week starting January 17th. Any one else going to be around during that time?

What website to you check for the latest weather and snow conditions?

    Mulletizer,
I am driving down mid-week w/ another from Leysin. I was asked to locate the housing, too. He said something about Skier's Lodge? Name sounds to english to be in La Grave, but who knows? Any leads or suggestions on where we should locate ourselves?

    Thanks, LITT

It's always bound to snow sometime....

Gonna be in Cham around the 15th to the 20th of Jan, ispo Feb 1-4,but St. Anton inbetween would be nice with a stop in Engleberg.
    Or something like that.

I'm trying my best to convince Mrs Roo that she'd be up to something like the Petit Envers at the moment. Would you be so good as to lead the way if conditions allow?

They're rowing as hard as they can, Duke...

Hayduke, That bag is due to arrive this week, next week at the latest. Sorry to choose such a slow shipping method. It was just so damn expensive, I didn't want you to pay more to ship than the bag cost.

Having been to St. Anton during new Years/ first week in Jan the last few years and looked at the sketchy historical data I could find, I don't think there is a safer call for this time of year (except for glaciers). It seems like there are one of the only places to have snow at the moment. I will miss Schindlergrat and backside of Valluga, and Langen, and.....

Damn I had some good skiing there. If you go, check out the Funky Chicken. Cheap very toxic Marg's and really good cheap chicken. Good videos on the big screen as well.

    <Arnold> I'll be back <end Arnold>

Splat, where are you at the beginning of Feb? Ispo?

i just got back from a week in solden. it was pretty damn good considering the state of the rest of the alps. it snowed about 30cm while there but the wind was strong from the N. windripped northside and powder southside. lech/zurs/st anton got some good snow too but same wind conditions. not sure about the dolomites but doubtful that they got as much snow. wasn't there a ski comp there last week? looked pretty bad on tv.

looks like we are set up for a nice dump on the swiss and french side now. chamonix, pds, and flaine will get snow as well as the alpes vaudiouse and central switz. temps are dropping and snow is falling here. should continue thru wed then starting to break. nice timing for christmas. after that looks dry for the rest of the week.
