i am going to guess there is a guy beside the tree throwing the ax towards the guy in the pic who is posing to look like he just threw it.

either that or it is a rubber ax.

I say dood-in-red just tossed the axe up in the air.

Or there's some depth perception tomfoolery going on.
    It's idomatic, beatch.

I'd say exactly what Cornholio said, but he already said it. So I won't say anything.

it does look like the ax is going to miss him to his right. maybe it is just a depth perception thing like cornholio suggests?

I think the ax looks like its going to miss him to the right becasue he tossed it up with the left arm that bent up in the air. This would make the ax go left to right.
If I was getting an ax thrown at me, i'd have my hands over my nuts.

That's what it looks like to me. The guy who looks like he threw it did, in fact, throw it, but he threw it well to the guy with the apple on his head's right.

Well, you're all right on the depth perception thing, but it was actually going about 3 feet to throwers LEFT of the apple guy.

It all started with us throwing the hatchet and full sized ax into trees, then we got the picture idea. The carhart guys was the best marksman so he stepped up....and I guess "The Doctor" was the drunkest, because he agreed to put the apple on his head.

Take 2 (actually about probably the 5th, but these are the two that turned out).

    I think that's what we were saying: thrower's left = target's right.
