i'm trading away my CMH's for some really big Stoklis.
i used to tour on the CMH's.
i have new gotamas, and some pistols.
my heart wants to mount the gotamas alpine and switch my pistols to touring.
but my brain says the gotama is a better touring ski than the pistol.
i really want to ski these new new shiny pretty gotamas a shit ton, and i'm easily skiing at squaw at least 85% of my days this season.

Seriously though, they're my most favoritest skis ever. And with the exception of the eternally cracking wood sidewall, they've been bombproof. Thankfully, this year I'll be getting my hands on the new ones with the p-tex sidewalls.

I suggest you sell the Freerides and buy a pair of P18s instead for all inbounds fun. This way you will be forced to explore more of Squaw on the less than perfect days.

I read all your posts and agree with your points. I think it's pretty clear to everyone that trekkers are not the choice for serious alpine touring, that's why they make AT bindings of all sorts of flavors. And AT Boots and AT skis. However, alot of us aren't serious AT skiers.......we just like to hike up and ski on freshies, and jump off shit. I know better than to go adventuring up any ultra-knar high alpine spots.

I know that due to my weight (180lb) and short bootsole (293mm), I can't ski any 12 din binding set to 11, period.....I pre-release several times a day just freeskiing on mellow terrain. If I'm going bother hiking up something, I want my full on alpine ski gear to ski it with. Otherwise, what's the point? I'm a skier, not a mountaineer. If that means I need to switch over to crampons or snowshoes at some point, so be it....just need to come with the right stuff.

Does putting Freerides on big powder skis make sense? Evidently it does for some people - those who have huge feet and can ski a 10 din setting on a 12 din binding, and who are going to make lots of climbing laps in deep snow.

So what you are saying is your compensating for your lack of "size" with a high din binding?

Just being a voice of reason here but might I suggest to Basom the following scenario:
Send me your new goats, I will send you my old PR's (3 years old, compressed edges, zero camber remaining) with an old set of Diamir II's mounted about 10 cm forward of the old "Binder" holes. This way, you will not be tainted by the goat's raddness yet you will be ultra core by charging hard on a light weight AT setup. I think it may be your only option at this point. I don't remember this thread being intended to address your AT needs and desires. Basom is probably THE preeminent AT honcho west of the Mississippi and hates freshies and jumping off shit, except maybe the headwall on Superstar.
